Head Property & Specialty Underwriting South Africa
We offer you an outstanding opportunity to lead our Underwriting team in CorSo function which will give you a big exposure to the market and wider senior management.
You will:
Craft the South African and Pan African underwriting business strategy with the CEO with focus on building a profitable and sustainable book of business.
Own the annual business planning/budgeting process
Improve quality of portfolio by monitoring & steering, performing data driven analysis, guidance, tactical execution
Represent CorSo with external partners, i.e. clients, brokers, industry associations/conferences/panels, regulators, etc.
Actively develop your UW team
Triage new submissions and find opportunities to position Swiss Re Corporate Solutions on programmes at the earliest possible stage.
Underwrite the business. Assessing the risk, coverage, terms and conditions. Rate the business within the available rating tool landscape.
Negotiate with clients and brokers in collaboration with the client manager.
About You
If you bring strong communication & negotiation skills with good market knowledge and network, this role is for you!
Essentials:
Minimum 8+ years in underwriting at a senior level with knowledge in Property, Mining, Construction and Engineering Underwriting in Insurance and/or Broking.
Strong leader, able to engage, coach, mentor and motivate people
Deep understanding of portfolio management, risk selection and underwriting practice (including risk management, industry assessment, client risk appetite and rating methodologies)
Solid understanding of policy language, coupled with ability to interpret the structure of insurance contracts and challenge clauses where necessary, drawing on market knowledge
Exposure to working in the broader African markets
