    Industrial Development Intern

    About the job

    WHAT IS THE ROLE?

B&M Analysts is looking for a smart, energetic intern to help us drive change at our clients and within the industries we support. In the role you will support project managers to design, execute and innovate on projects to ensure they have a measurable impact.

This represents a genuine opportunity to learn, grow, and facilitate meaningful change in South Africa. We are looking for bright individuals who have the ability to think, work and act independently, with a natural tendency to question the status quo. Most of all, we are looking for those who are interested in developing the real economy, with industrialisation and job creation at the heart of economic growth.

BMA is an Equal Opportunity employer and preference will be given to Previously Disadvantaged Individuals as described in the Employment Equity Act.

    WHAT DO WE DO?

Our purpose is to build dignity and opportunity through a production-led economy. This means making South Africa a globally competitive manufacturing hub. We do this by partnering with government and leading companies to facilitate innovative sector or value chain development programmes. These programmes include global best practice discovery, shared learning networks, value chain strategy and execution, manufacturing performance diagnostics, skills development and SME Accelerators. Our work is underpinned by facts, driven by data, and designed for impact.

    WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

    • Support project managers to problem solve in unstructured environments where the diagnosis and solution may not be clear and lateral thinking is required.

    • Execute chosen initiatives efficiently and effectively, whether it be conducting desktop research, modelling a business case, building a dashboard, facilitating a workshop, mapping out a process flow or reviewing progress reports.

    • Support the development of innovative products and services designed to make manufacturing firms and value chains more competitive.

    • Accurately track and manage project finances and support the necessary project administration. Be responsible for end-to-end project management of broad industry initiatives or specific value chain development programmes and ensure all stakeholders are aligned and engaged.

    WHO ARE YOU?

    • You want to make a difference in South Africa through manufacturing employment creation and can get the big picture in terms of industry-wide challenges and opportunities

    • You are a self-starter – you think independently and prefer getting things done over academic rumination

    • You have strong attention to detail – nothing wrong with a healthy dose of OCD

    • You understand economics and the drivers of economic development

    • You are socially adaptable – the ability and desire to engage with people from different socioeconomic backgrounds and in different environments, from boardroom to factory

    • You have good business acumen – an intuitive understanding of commercial pressures, challenges and opportunities

    • You are an outgoing person with excellent language and communication skills – you have no problem picking up the phone and calling a stranger to move forward with a task

    • You have an intellectual curiosity, see yourself as a learner and find yourself reading and watching videos about topics that fascinate you

    • You don’t mind working hard

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Honours or Masters degree in an analytical, at least partially quantitative, subject from a leading academic university
