The School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) at the University of Johannesburg offers a broad range of undergraduate diplomas and degrees, postgraduate and continuous education programmes designed to equip graduates with relevant skills and competencies that can be applied across length and breadth of the tourism and hospitality value chain.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a broad experience base in the discipline of hospitality management.
Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervision of Honours and Masters students. We take pride in our scholarly work and we expect all our academics to actively undertake research and publish in high-quality journals.
Upon joining our Department, you will:
- Be situated at the STH Admin Building, Bunting Road Campus, Kingsway, but not excluded from teaching on other campuses
- Teach allocated modules
- Conduct and publish your research within a focus area in Hospitality management
- Fulfil leadership and administrative roles in the within the STH when required
Responsibilities:
If you join our Department, you will:
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and learners from our client organisations
- Supervise postgraduate students’ research, including honours and master’s
- Conduct and publish your research within a research focus area of your personal interest
- Fulfil leadership roles in the department
- Administration taskes in department
- Make a meaningful difference through community engagement
- Forge and maintain external professional networks
Minimum requirements
To qualify, you need to have:
- A Masters degree in Hospitality management
- Proven experience in teaching/training at a reputable higher education institution, locally or internationally
- Evidence of published articles in accredited journals
- Evidence of successful supervision
- If not completed, be registered for a PhD degree
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Well-developed quantitative and/or qualitative methodology skills
- Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills
Recommendations:
- An excellent ability to speak and write in English
- Computer literate (MS Office ext)
- Ability to teach online
- Able to teach large groups
