    Legal Services Manager

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • Legal Services Manager has the responsibility for functional leadership and direction for the Legal Compliance Management functions at FASSET, in so doing, should provide, manage and co-ordinate quality legal, compliance, and risk functions services to FASSET. Strategic Leadership and Direction
    •  The Legal Services Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient provision of Strategic Leadership and Direction of the Legal Services Management of FASSET.

    Management of the Legal Services

    •  Ensuring that the organisation adheres to the constitution and the various applicable laws.
    •  Ensuring that the organisational legal matters are managed properly, and efficiently and that the relevant and respective interested and affected parties are informed and given proper advice and guidance in terms of how to deal with the matters in question.
    •  Providing legal advice throughout FASSET.
    •  Developing and leading the corporate legal strategy to promote and protect FASSET’s interests.
    •  Overseeing the delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies, and priorities.

    Management of the Legal compliance function

    •  Overseeing the corporate legal compliance requirements, functioning as an independent
    • and objective body that reviews and evaluates compliance issues/ concerns within the organisation.
    •  Ensuring the management and employees follow the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that policies and procedures are being followed, and that behaviour in the organisation meets the FASSET standards of conduct.
    •  Developing and leading FASSET’s corporate compliance checklist.
    •  Acting as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/ concerns within the organisation are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
    •  Report on legal compliance in providing guidance for the Board, Exco and the senior management team on matters relating to compliance.
    •  Driving the implementation of all necessary actions to ensure achievement of the objectives of an effective compliance checklist.
    •  Identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, developing/ implementing corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and providing general guidance on how to avoid or deal with a similar situation in the future.
    •  Responsible for legal compliance audits and examinations; and
    •  Disseminating and analysing new or revised laws and regulations, and research on compliance issues.

    Legal risk management

    •  The Legal Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of the Risk Management Function.
    •  Providing functional responsibility to the Department Head. People management
    •  Management of disciplinary and grievances matters pertaining to the department.
    •  Capacity Planning and development of employees within the department.
    •  Managing performance of employees within the department.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
    Qualification 

    •  LLB Degree (NQF level 8)
    •  Must be an admitted attorney of the High Court or Advocate

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
    Essential: 

    •  7 years’ experience in the Legal field of which 5 years should be at a supervisory level.
    •  Member of the law society legal.
