Job Description
Background
The role defines and facilitates the implementation of Stakeholder Relations strategy within MFC to manage the optimal positioning of MFC with key stakeholders and to unlock shared value with stakeholders.
Proactively collaborate across the Group and within the MFC value chain to deliver integrated outputs to the benefit of the cluster
Key Performance Areas
Stakeholder Relations
Proactively develop and manage effective relationships with primary stakeholders (governments unions and stakeholders within the financial services market) to support the good standing of MFC and to deliver the desired impact on these groups.
Identify and map the needs and expectations of the external stakeholders to deliver suitable engagement approaches that unlock shared value for MFC and stakeholders.
Able to craft an approach to stakeholder relations that will drive the OML and MFC stated socio-economic goals of financial inclusion, sustainability and the building of stronger economies across South Africa.
Delivers Tier One Engagements and Strategic Projects, inclusive of the national partnerships
Monitor and evaluate the quality of MFC stakeholder engagement and relationships to identify and manage any stakeholder risks.
Provide input on all political matters to support in the appropriate handling of political matters that affect MFC and its stakeholders.
Manage MFC’s relationship with all government bodies’ regulators, advisors, unions and stakeholders
Collaborating with MFC Communications for the implementation of the cluster-wide communication plan and associated policies and messages for identified stakeholders within Public Affairs.
Guide and manage lobbying activities with external stakeholders for MFC
People
Manage people and culture per OML people practices and policies to create an enabling environment that supports high-performing and empowered teams.
Define and drive clear accountability and engagement models and processes within the team and with touchpoints across the Group and cluster
Budgets and Expense Management
Manage the operating expense budget to agreed standards
Requirements
Relevant degree (commerce, business, legal) required
MBA Advantageous
Minimum 6 to 8 years’ relevant experience
People management experience 2 years
Proven experience in interpreting and implementing company strategy.
Experience working within the industry and in a stakeholder management capacity will be an advantage.
Prior financial services experience is desirable

Business & Market knowledge
Displays sound knowledge of the business landscape (Business value chain and key operational areas.) Understands the value offering of each area within the business to the different customers. Understands the type of market within which the business operates. Knows the key competitors and their product/service offering.
Business Finance
Skilled in budget planning and management, including the analysis of costs and financial performance measures. Contributes to the identification of profitable and value-adding business opportunities. Sound knowledge of financial and related commercial concepts (For example Profit & Loss, Return on Investment, Business value drivers) as it applies within a business function.
Stakeholder Management
Expert in identifying stakeholder groups. Shapes the classification of different stakeholders. Evaluates the changes in stakeholder expectations, influence and impact. Guides on the most effective way to engage and communicate with different stakeholder groups.
Public Affairs
Builds and maintains a positive image of the business through effective public relations communications. Advanced skills in building and managing relations with key stakeholders and government bodies. Interprets the effectiveness of public relations plans. Skilled in the required protocols to deal with specific stakeholders. Sound understanding of the ethical, legal, and regulatory parameters for public relations activities.
Reputation Management
In-depth ability to assess the business reputation in the market and with various stakeholder groups. Skilled in coordinating internal actions to support key reputation drivers. Skilled in managing corporate reputational risk.
Risk and Crisis Management
Extensive skills in implementing business risk, compliance, and governance policies within a work environment. Guides others on what constitutes ethical behaviour. Skilled in developing and implementing crisis management plans and processes.
Preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.
