    Principal Tailings Engineer (Mining / MRF / TSF / EOR / Pr.Eng / Project Management ) – Sandton

    Job Description:

    Our client, a well-established global consulting firm with 100 years of industry experience, specializing in Mining, Environmental, Hydropower, and Water Resources is looking for a seasoned Tailings Engineer to join their company. In this position, you will be part of a dynamic geotechnical engineering team with responsibility for directing and reviewing technical activities and products related to geotechnical work. You will plan and participate in geotechnical site investigations, interpret data, conduct geotechnical analysis, prepare detailed designs, provide technical support during construction and produce comprehensive reports. The main project focus will be on tailings dams with occasional inclusions of water dams, heap leach pads, mine waste rock dumps, loaded structural foundations and earthworks in the mining and renewable energy sectors.

    Responsibilities:

    • Direct and review the integration of technical activities and products related to geotechnical work
    • Plan and participate in geotechnical site investigation/laboratory testing programs
    • Interpret in-situ data and analyze laboratory test results to determine soil characteristics
    • Perform geotechnical analysis and designs or make recommendations for project components
    • Develop clear and concise reports for clients
    • Provide technical review of study reports, drawings, and specifications
    • Review project information to determine the approach and work required
    • Mentor and develop less experienced staff
    • Act as a client liaison and develop relationships with client representatives
    • Investigate, assess, and secure assignments in the mining, water resources, and hydropower sectors
    • Provide contributions to the company's overall marketing strategy

    Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in geotechnical engineering
    • 10 to 15 years of experience in design and construction of tailings facilities
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE)
    • Proficiency in MS Office and slope stability programs (e.g., GeoStudio and/or RocScience) required
    • Familiarity with gINT, FLAC or PLAXIS, and other latest geotechnical design software strongly preferred
    • Knowledge of Civil 3D is an asset
