    Engineering Superintendent (Planning / MHSA / Earth-Moving Equipment / Mining) – Northern Cape

    Job Description:

    Our client, a mining group, is seeking an Engineering Superintendent (Planning) who will supervise all Engineering staff and related activities within allocated Earthmoving Equipment Department. Ensure that maintenance and repairs of Earthmoving Equipment is timeously executed in accordance to set standards and within approved budget. To ensure that all Engineering and other related SOP’s are adhered to and maximize equipment availability to ultimately ensure that site production targets are met.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that all Earthmoving Equipment within allocated section maintains at least 85% availability.
    • Monitor availability, MTTR and MTBF statistics to ensure acceptable equipment performance against set targets.
    • Develop, present and implement remedial action plans where required, to address underperformance.
    • Ensure that all Engineering activities are pre-planned, scheduled, properly & timeously executed and conducted as per OEM guidelines and intervals for each machine type and model.
    • Assist Artisans to perform diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify problems and resolve engineering malfunctions on equipment.
    • Ensure that Artisans attend to all breakdowns or equipment malfunctions/failures reported with urgency and continuously update the Maintenance and Production Managers on repair progress and expected work completion timelines.
    • Conduct frequent over-inspections of work done by artisans and assistants to ensure that work is executed to high standards.
    • Ensure that no equipment leaves the workshop or repair area in a poor state and that lubricants are re-filled to appropriate levels before re-starting of equipment.  
    • Ensure compliance with all client/company SOP’s, Policies, procedures, provisions and stipulations of the MHSA.
    • Ensure that allocated section budget is adhered to and behave in a cost- conscious manner at all times.
    • Investigate premature component failures in conjunction with the Section Engineering and Snr. Maintenance Manager to perform root cause analysis.
    • Develop, propose and implement cost saving initiatives.
    • Act as mentor for allocated section. Identify and propose training interventions and programs to Snr. Maintenance Manager to ensure that Artisans and Assistants are developed in terms of set IDP’s.
    • Develop and implement a succession plan for Dept.

    Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Qualified Mechanical Engineer (N. Dip or Degree) with at least 3-5 years related post-graduation experience or alternatively Qualified Artisan (Section 13 “Red Seal” or Section 26 D) with at least 8-10 years’ post qualification experience as Artisan of which 3-5 years must be in a supervisory level role.
    • Valid driver’s license and clean criminal record.
    • Excellent knowledge of heavy earthmoving equipment fleet maintenance, repairs and diagnostics within an open cast mining environment
    • Excellent people (supervisory) and administration skills (including computer skills; MS Office, Pragma/Asset management system).
    • Good knowledge of MHSA & applicable Labour legislation (BCEA, LRA)

    Safety Manager (Mining / SAMTRAC / SHE / Open-Pit) – Northern Cape

    Job Description:

    Our client is seeking a SHE Manager who will generate, implement and manage systems, processes and procedures related to applicable Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and to ensure that all activities conducted on site are executed in compliance with set SOP’s, policies and legislation. The incumbent will Lead SHE team and act as SHE Custodian and Advisor on site. Compile and present SHE reports and monitor trends and statistics.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage SHE Function and designated Team on site and ensure that subordinates are aligned with Department goals, action plans and deliverables.
    • Communicate SHE values, raise awareness and establish a safe work culture on site.

    • Compile professional reports and communicate findings and remedial actions to line managers and relevant stakeholders.

    • Ensure that Risk assessments, P.T.O’s, Safe declarations and other related procedural documents are implemented, properly completed and filed as per SHE System protocol.
    • Generate, propose and implement (once approved) a site based Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) policy and matrix.
    • Monitor P.P.E stock levels in conjunction with the Supply Chain Team and ensure that adequate levels are maintained as per approved budget and policy.
    • Ensure that task appropriate P.P.E is issued and that P.P.E is properly used as per prescribed S.O.P’s.
    • Review all SHE systems and procedures frequently to assess effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Generate accurate information and statistics to monitor SHE trends.
    • Monitor Root Cause risks continuously and ensure that interventions implemented are effective in adequately limiting or cancelling the risk of future re-occurrences of incidents.
    • Ensure that site LTIFR and AIFR remains above target.
    • Ensure that all legally required Structures and Committees are established on site and properly functioning.
    • Ensure to obtain and maintain all applicable SHE certification and accreditation as per requirements. Conduct frequent inspection to ensure that certificates are renewed before expiry.
    • Monitor time spent by subordinates on the mine and ensure compliance with legal attendance parameters.
    • Manage discipline and initiate disciplinary action in line with applicable disciplinary procedures, where required.

    Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • At least 8 years’ SHE Management experience in an opencast mining environment of which at least 3-5 years must be as SHE Manager carrying a 2.17.1 Legal appointment and overseeing SHE Officers.
    • Grade 12 completed.
    • National Diploma in Safety Management with B. Tech (preferred).
    • COMSOC 1 & 2 or alternatively SAMTRAC completed (compulsory).
    • MHSA/OHASA Legal Liability training certification (compulsory).
    • ISO certification in System Auditing or integrated internal auditing will be advantageous.

    Our client is seeking a Pit Superintendent who will manage all Load & Haul related activities on site and per shift in conjunction with the Production Manager.     Customer Support Technician (Mining / Technology / Mechanic / Maintenance) – Johannesburg

    Job Description:

    Our client is seeking a Customer Support Technician who will be responsible for proactively working individually and as part of a team to assemble and commission the complete range of the company’s Projects and Products as directed by the Service Superintendent.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Service Superintendent to build a strong competency in, and ability to adapt to, a range of breakdown situations that will be encountered when servicing or maintaining the company’s range of supplied equipment.
    • The commissioning, repair, maintenance and monitoring of the company suite of technologies at mine sites.
    • Training of mine site personnel in the effective utilization of company suite of technologies.
    • Fault finding skills coupled with the ability to efficiently resolve problems in a manner appropriate to the particular situation, is a large part of this role.
    • Ensure all issued Technical Bulletins have been implemented, or, coordinate information to site ensure the necessary follow up is conducted.
    • Complete service module information update and check (hours of operation, hammer fires, scheduling of next service).
    • Ensure spare parts required on site for upcoming trips are in progress and on time.
    • Work with warehouse dispatch personnel to expedite if required.
    • While on site, proactively ensure the customer’s needs are met.
    • Provide assistance to the customer warehouse function to audit/identify spares stock at the site warehouse if requested by the customer.
    • Working as an integral part of company’s Services & Site Maintenance team in a professional, proactive manner so as to ensure feedback and follow up to the customer occurs in a timely manner.

    Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Journeyman Mechanic, Journeyman Crane Technician, Journeyman Diesel Technician or similar trade qualification.
    • Tertiary qualification in engineering or a mining industry related discipline would be well regarded however.
    • Knowledge of and a wide range of contacts within the hard rock mining industry.
    • Knowledge of and experience with the maintenance programs of grinding mills, and in particular relining.
    • Effective time management to ensure sufficient and effective customer contact, particularly in regard to the company’s global market.
