    Senior Manager Operations

    Job Profile Summary

    • Reporting to the General Manager Mobility & Convenience South Africa (Retail) and part of Extended Leadership team, the Senior Manager Operations has the overall accountability for the full PnL of M&C business. This primary function comprises of the implementation of the Retail Plan and Strategy through leading a team of Regional Operations Managers and their teams in driving efficient, safe and business performance throughout the retail site network.
    • In addition, the Senior Manager Operations is responsible for the delivery of financial and operational performance targets within a fuels and convenience network, which is reliant upon strong relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external).

    Key Accountabilities:

    Strategy development and ownership

    • Plays a significant role in the formulation of the strategic direction as well the overall delivery of bp SA’s objectives.
    • Deliver the South African sales strategy, including volume targets, profitability targets and operational cost targets at site, including fuel and non-fuel income streams.
    • Develops strategies to give voice to customers, ensuring all future site-level plans are informed by relevant consumer insights.
    • Ensure that the sales agenda is aligned with the overall P&C strategy and incorporates succession planning, skills development, and career management processes.

    Leadership

    • Role model and ensure entire team consistently practices the Who We are beliefs; Live our Purpose, Play to Win, and Care for Others
    • Build a culture of operational excellence by developing and implementing key performance measures. This involves actively driving the delivery of the sales strategy in South Africa to achieve profitable volume growth, optimised margin management across the defined channels of trade whilst at the same time ensuring alignment with overall BU strategy and business performance requirements.
    • Direct and empower a team of Regional Operations Managers to deliver outstanding performance against set performance KPIs: HSSE, Customer, Financial and Operating standards
    • Develop skills and provide on-going coaching to the Regional Operations Managers.
    • Clarify accountabilities clearly and inputs required from all stakeholders.
    • Drive performance through cultivating a sense of ownership in your team members.
    • Focus on driving mind set changes through establishing enablers to change behaviours and build capabilities.

    Competitor and market benchmarking:

    • Identify opportunities to expand or shift course as needed to take advantage of changes in the market.
    • Monitors and anticipates competitor activity and develops appropriate response strategies.

    Performance management, measurement and monitoring

    • Continuously scan the environment to ensure that the relevant actions taken are in line with the Retail Strategic Plan.
    • Ensure that all investment CAPEX business cases are economically viable, and all the correct Franchises maintain a legal register.
    • Monitor key performance indicators and trends, together with Operations and functional support teams from an end-to-end process and implement appropriate actions to address any issues that may impact business optimisation. I.e., Fuel store sales, on and off-site costs and net contribution plans (SoC)
    • Acts as custodian of the bp brand at the point of retail and, consequently, assumes responsibility for decisively holding accountability with all stakeholders to protect value and the brand.
    • Identifies potential problems and mobilizes resources to find solutions that maximize efficiency and revenue.

    Stakeholder management

    • Permanently represents the retail business in all engagements.
    • Develops and maintains strong relationships with franchisees, dealers, organized dealer communities and other key stakeholders.
    • Influences collaboration between various stakeholders and facilitates efficient delivery against all critical KPI’s.
    • Manage relationships and resolve conflict with agility and speed to deliver solutions through joint integrated decisions.

    Assurance

    • Provides assurance to the M&C GM on ethics, reputation and provides leadership, direction as well as coaches respective teams in order to deliver the required objectives on business performance, operational standards and HSSE.
    • Understands the importance of product quality and how it affects customers.
    • Ensures Product Change MoC is completed and approved for product conversions and new product introductions.
    • Ensures adequate and effective provision of people and financial resources for the successful fulfilment of the delivery objectives.
    • Ensures country regulatory compliance with local health, safety and environmental requirements.

    Education & Experience Required:

    Education

    • A Post graduate qualification in business, Administration, Marketing and or Sales. Masters level qualification advantageous.

    Experience

    • 8 – 10 years' experience in retail sales leadership role/s
    • Previous retail experience desirable.
    • Proven ability to lead, coach and motivate others to deliver outstanding performance
    • Sound financial awareness with ability to interpret financial and key performance indicators into clear actions to deliver performance improvement
    • Self-motivated and performance driven with a passion for retailing excellence
    • Successful track record of results & goal achievements, improving year on year performances
    • The ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations and always striving to do the right thing
    • Excellent communication and people skills – being able to mentor and coach site staff to drive sales and ensure best in class execution
    • Ability to understand the broader Strategic Framework and the impact of role within this framework
