    Senior Systems Engineer

    • Senior System Engineer - Platforms , is a senior, hands‑on technical specialist responsible for the end‑to‑end operational management, security, and resilience of the organisation’s core Microsoft infrastructure, identity, and data protection platforms.
    • The role provides primary operational ownership of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory (on‑premises and cloud), Exchange on-prem and online, Office 365, monitoring and endpoint management platforms, virtualisation, and enterprise backup and recovery technologies, ensuring availability, security, recoverability, and compliance across production and non‑production environments.
    • This role is accountable for identity integrity and data protection outcomes, including directory availability, secure access, backup integrity, recovery readiness, retention compliance, and disaster‑recovery support.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    • Own and operate Microsoft Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, monitoring, and fault resolution.
    • Provide primary operational ownership of Active Directory (on‑premises), including domain services, replication, Group Policy, DNS integration, DHCP configuration and management ,authentication services, and directory health.
    • Administer and support cloud identity services (Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD), including tenant configuration, identity synchronisation, authentication integration, and hybrid identity operations.
    • Support and maintain identity lifecycle services, including directory integrations and service account management, in alignment with security and access standards.
    • Administer and support the Microsoft Office 365 environment, ensuring service availability, configuration integrity, and alignment to organisational standards.
    • Own and manage Microsoft SCOM, including infrastructure monitoring, alerting, health modelling, and performance visibility.
    • Own and manage Microsoft SCCM and Intune, including endpoint and server patching, software deployment, configuration compliance, and reporting.
    • Administer and support VMware virtualisation platforms, including capacity management, performance optimisation, lifecycle activities, and incident resolution.
    • Administer and support Exchange on-prem and online, including capacity management, performance optimisation, lifecycle activities, and incident resolution.
    • Provide primary ownership of enterprise backup and data protection platforms, including backup configuration, scheduling, retention, encryption, immutability, and off‑site replication.
    • Execute and validate backup, restore, and recovery operations, ensuring systems meet defined RPO and RTO requirements.
    • Support disaster recovery preparedness and testing, including restore validation and recovery runbooks.
    • Lead complex infrastructure, identity, and data‑protection incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing permanent remediation.
    • Maintain accurate technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks to ensure audit‑ready and supportable environments.
    • Manage and maintain file and print services

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE:

    Key attributes and competencies

    • Strong hands-on technical depth across Microsoft infrastructure, identity, virtualisation, and data protection platforms.
    • Proven ability to operate in large, complex, enterprise production environments supporting business critical services.
    • Strong understanding of identity, authentication, directory services, and access dependency across enterprise systems.
    • Strong understanding of data protection, recoverability, retention, and resilience principles.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure, including out of hours and major incident scenarios.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • 5–10 years’ experience supporting enterprise Microsoft infrastructure environments.
    • Proven hands on experience with: Microsoft Windows Server ,Active Directory (on premises), Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, Microsoft Office 365,Microsoft SCOM, Microsoft SCCM, VMware virtualisation platforms, Enterprise backup and recovery technologies

    Qualifications & Certifications

    • Relevant IT qualification (Diploma or Degree preferred).
    • Microsoft certifications in Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Azure or M365 – Preferred
    • SCCM, Intune and SCOM training or certification – Advantageous
    • VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization – Advantageous
    • Backup and data protection platform training or certification – Strongly advantageous
