Structural Engineer at SMEC

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Designing structural elements of buildings and engineering infrastructure: piles, pile caps, strap beams, concrete frames, slabs and structural steelwork
• Proficiency in use of design and analysis software: Prokon, Robot
• Proficiency in use of drawing software: AutoCAD and Revit
• Ensuring projects are documented within guidelines set by Supervisor
• Leading small team of technicians/draughtspersons on a project
• Producing efficient, high quality designs and documentation
• Drafting technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
• Ensuring appropriate technical and drawing standards and quality procedures are maintained 
• Taking ownership and responsibility for own work 
• Checking the work of other team members
• Able to present / represent their technical work
• Ability to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications
• Construction administration and monitoring
• Preparation of tenders for construction including BoQ’s and specifications
• Preparation of tender bids to clients including drafting cost estimates
• Developing solutions to complex engineering problems
• Performing design work duties under the supervision of a Professional Engineer/ Scientists/Other Professionals
• Applying SMEC’s systems and procedures and ensure enforcement
• Compliance with the design and drawings quality procedures.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  

• Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from an accredited University
• Minimum 5 years of practical experience. Candidates with greater experience will also be favourably considered
• Professional Registration with ECSA is advantageous
• Experience in structural engineering design of buildings and engineering structures
• Experience in the use of CAD systems especially Revit experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
• Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
• Knowledge of basic project management and the use of project management software
