    Technical Talent Specialist

    Description

    The Role

Stitch is a developer-first API startup with a mission to deeply connect financial systems with the wider world. We provide an API which allows third-party apps and websites to interact with their user's bank accounts in ways that unlocks the ability for companies across Africa to build innovative technology products quickly.

Creating innovative financial products is incredibly difficult today, and we believe that unlocking the way people interact with their finances starts with building a technical talent function to source, evaluate, and acquire the right technical talent for the business.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Talent Specialist who will work with our senior leadership team to build out a talent function at Stitch, managing against Stitch's ambitious mission to build out a world-class technical product & engineering teams that will build the core elements of our platform and products.

As a Technical Talent Specialist and our first Technical Talent hire, you will be setting up our talent pipeline, optimizing existing tools and employing new ones to be able to meet the ambitious hiring goals of the business. If successful within the first 3 - 6 months, you'll also have the opportunity to build out a team under you to help you scale your efforts - including other recruiters and administrative / HR specialists - as we build this as a critical function here at Stitch.

    Software Engineering Principles

While this role is non-code-facing, it's important that this individual be aware of our technical / engineering ethos as the driving force behind how we look for world-class talent:

We firmly believe that any technical choice should be mediated by an understanding of the costs and benefits, nevertheless here are some of the engineering principles that we espouse as a matter of course:

    • User First - We are never satisfied with a technically convenient design if it leaves our end users worse off. We will always go the extra mile for our users.

    • Type Driven Development - Type driven development is all about thinking deeply about your domain and modelling data types in such a way that it makes illegal state unrepresentable. We strongly believe that a type first approach leads to strong architecture and better results for the end user.

    • Functional/Functional Reactive architecture - We believe that while pragmatism is important, software quality can be improved by constraining mutability, adopting message passing concurrency, separating side effects from business logic, and making use of declarative, functional APIs.

    Requirements

    • Experience partnering with hiring managers to understand technical hiring needs, and craft a candidate funnel to be able to execute effective sourcing, engagement, screening and closing processes

    • Must be able to understand how to source, attract and recruit passive technology candidates, at a rate of ~3 - 5 new signees per month (as an individual contributor)

    • Possess strong ability to screen, assess, interview, and prep a high calibre candidate slate within an appropriate and consistent timeline - no candidate should be in active interviewing stages for more than 2 weeks

    • Must have experience building out and leading technical talent teams - as this individual will likely be a senior leader in the business and will need to staff up his or her own team over time as needs scale

    Advantageous

    • Experience with API-driven companies

    • Experience recruiting for top tech talent firms, such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, etc.

    • Understanding of creating and staffing strategic technical labor markets across the world (particularly those outside Stitch's main revenue-generating jurisdictions)
