Core Description

• The SOC Tier 1 Engineer is responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security events and alerts in real-time. This role serves as the first line of defense in the Security Operations Center (SOC), ensuring timely identification and escalation of potential threats to safeguard organizational systems and data.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions

• Monitor real-time alerts from our SIEM, EDR, firewall, network and other security systems.
• Perform initial analysis and triage of security alerts: classify alerts, identify false positives, escalate genuine incidents to Tier 2/3.
• Review logs from servers, network devices, endpoints and applications to detect suspicious or anomalous behaviour.
• Document all investigations thoroughly: steps taken, findings, escalations, resolution.
• Maintain awareness of threat intelligence and apply known Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) in monitoring.
• Participate in shift hand-overs, SOC run-books, and ensure continuity across 24/7 operations.
• Work with the SOC Team Lead to improve monitoring rules, alerting logic and SOC process efficiency.
• Conduct daily checks on monitoring tools, ensure sensors and logs are operational and alerts are being generated appropriately.
• Collaborate with IT/Network/Endpoint/Infrastructure teams for any required forensic hand-off or investigation support.

Minimum Qualifications

• NQF 6: 3 year Degree/ Diploma/ National Diploma in IT/Computer Science or related field
• NQF 4: Grade 12 National Diploma

Additional Education -Preferred /Advantage

Experience

• 2-3 years’ experience in SOC or security monitoring environment with basic networking knowledge: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, VPNs, firewalls and windows and/or Linux operating systems and common log sources.

Certifications

• CompTIA Security+ Certification

Core Description

• To manage the execution of IT projects in accordance with the specified and agreed upon scope, timeframe, budget, and quality requirements. To monitor adherence to project management governance, principles, standards, and methodologies. To lead and manage a team of project managers and other project resources to execute IT projects and programmes.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions

• Define project plans incorporating scope, budget, and timeframes to ensure quality and successful project execution.
• Manage the delivery of multiple, large-scale, projects to successful completion in accordance with scope, budget, timeframe, and service level agreements.
• Monitor governance and quality of the projects, including adoption of PMO methodologies, principles, tools, standards, and processes.
• Provide onsite guidance for the project team to build and motivate team members to meet project milestones. Resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies, and critical path deliverables.
• Track and report on project status and performance, monitoring project overheads and capital expenses, project deliverables, dependencies, and timeframes.
• Identify and mitigate risks within the project and manage project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives to improve project delivery.
• Collaborate and facilitate optimum engagement between and within BCX Divisions and establish and enhance relationships and network with partners, customers and vendors in support of market dominance.
• Lead and manage a team of project professionals in executing projects and programmes.

Minimum Qualifications

• NQF 6: 3 year Degree/ Diploma/ National Diploma in Computer Science or Business
• OR NQF 4: Grade 12

Additional Education -Preferred /Advantage

Experience

• 5 years’ IT project management experience, of which 2 years is at a management/supervisory level.
• Alternatively, 7 years’ IT project management experience, of which 2 years is at a management/supervisory level.

Certifications

• Scrum Master Certification
