    Lecturer: Department of Public Law - Faculty of Law

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    Teaching in and coordinating the following modules offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which involve taking a contextual and transformative approach:

    • Constitutional Law;
    • Human Rights Law (Bill of Rights);
    • Conducting academic scholarly research;
    • Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context;
    • Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
    • Supervising masters’ students;
    • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
    • Academic administration and management;
    • Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • LLM (preferably by full dissertation) in the discipline of Constitutional Law or related areas in law;
    • Relevant tertiary teaching experience will be a strong recommendation;
    • Accredited quality publication/s will be a strong recommendation;
    • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching;
    • Relevant academic administration experience will be a strong recommendation.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
    • Appropriate communication skills;
    • Willingness to learn (i.e., Learning Management System and the use of technology enhancing learning);
    • Leadership Skills;
    • Computer literacy.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES:

    Demonstrable subject expertise and interest in the following areas related to public law:

    • Administrative Law;
    • Some experience in online teaching and learning.

    Lecturer - Department of Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology (Division of Genetics) - Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will actively participate in the following areas:

    • Leading an independent research programme that synergises with the Division of Genetics’ research initiatives, with the express purpose of producing research output to attract research funding, foster international collaborations, and mentor postgraduate students;
    • Teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Genetics;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • PhD in Genetics or a closely aligned field (NQF level 10);
    • Evidenced record of at least two publications in an accredited journal or at an international conference with a focus on advanced molecular genetics and preferably in aspects of human molecular genetics;
    • Proven experience as an undergraduate practical tutor/demonstrator in Genetics;
    • Proven experience in research mentorship at a tertiary level.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Evidence of the ability to collaborate, as well as the drive to build research capacity and research networks;
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching expertise that complement the Department’s needs, including the ability to teach large undergraduate classes (> 150 students);
    • Recent experience with academic administration, module development and co-ordination;
    • Experience with the Blackboard eLearning Platform and the development of audio-visual learning materials within a contact- and/or hybrid learning environment.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Excellent communication skills, a student-centred mind-set, and good interpersonal skills.
