    Accountant

    Key Responsibility Areas

    • Preparation of monthly operating and capital comparative statements.
    • Compilation of annual financial statements and providing unit information.
    • Preparation of annual estimates and providing unit information.
    • Control to the Celebrate Durban trust account.
    • Authorise expenditures in respect of special events.
    • Monitoring of costs and authorise financial documents.
    • Processes standing entries, and automatice distributions.
    • Issues invoices of costs to Trading Services.
    • Reconciliation of designated control, suspense and debtors accounts on capital and operating.
    • Clears outstanding commitments and service orders.
    • Clear unposted entries relating to assets.
    • Attend to external/internal auditors queries.
    • Scrutiny of all financial details reflected in reports.
    • Attend to city manager, managers, service users and service provider/public queries.
    • Control of asset/plant register and follow up with year-end asset verification;.

    Essential Requirements

    • Tertiary qualification (NQF Level 7) in Accounting or equivalent with Financial  Accounting as a major subject.

    Key Responsibility Areas

    • Contributes to service delivery systems of a complex nature and provides supportive leadership to the Accounting Officer, Senior Management team and Council.

    • A certificate of minimum municipal competencies from an accredited institution  or obtainable within 18 months from date of appointment.
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 8 years managerial experience of which at least 5 years must be at a middle management in a local government context will be an added advantage.

    Senior Legal Advisor

    Key Responsibility Areas

    • Provide employment law support to the Municipality and Municipal Entities.
    • Providing advice or formal legal opinions on employment law matters to the Municipality and Municipal Entities.
    • Drafting and vetting employment law related contracts.
    • Conducting research and training on employment law.
    • Providing legal support to council committees.
    • Institutes, defends and conducts litigation in the Lower Courts, Labour and High Courts, 
    • Supreme Court of Appeals and Constitutional Courts.
    • Provide memorandum of advise and opinion on general litigation matters. 
    • Provide an effective and responsive municipal prosecution service. 
    • Guides the Municipality in performing its constitutional, statutory and common law duties.
