    Managing Executive: Oil & Gas

    PURPOSE OF ROLE

    The Managing Executive for Oil and Gas is required to lead Lesedi’s Oil and Gas business unit.  The incumbent will manage a profit and loss business unit, with a portfolio encompassing diverse areas such as gas, oil and fuel storage, gas, oil and fuel reticulation, embedded generation utilising gas, oil or liquid fuels and serving clients in related sectors and industries.  The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business unit's operations, with a key focus on engineering, project management, construction, business development, and financial management. This role will involve strategic planning, market analysis, client relationship management, project execution, and financial oversight to drive growth and profitability.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Oil and Gas business unit by conducting market analysis, collaborating with stakeholders, setting clear objectives and tactics, establishing performance metrics, staying updated on industry trends and regulations, seeking partnerships, and addressing risks and challenges.
    • Provide visionary leadership to drive business growth, diversification, and profitability by inspiring and motivating the team with a compelling vision. Foster company values, encourage cross-functional teamwork, and act as a Champion for change, driving transformation and adapting to market dynamics. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging creativity and exploring new opportunities.

    Business Development

    • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within the oil and gas sector, driving growth and expanding Lesedi's presence in the market.
    • Cultivate relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners to foster trust and collaboration, enhancing Lesedi's position.
    • Develop compelling business proposals tailored to clients' needs and effectively communicate Lesedi's value proposition.
    • Skillfully negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to secure projects and contracts that drive revenue growth.

    Project Management and Execution​​​​​​​

    • The Executive ensures successful project delivery within the business unit, overseeing all phases from planning to delivery with a focus on quality, budget, and deadlines.
    • Actively monitors progress, identifies risks, and implements proactive measures to keep projects on track.
    • Provides strategic guidance to project teams, leveraging expertise to address challenges. Acts as a mentor and problem-solver, fostering innovation and collaboration. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination throughout the project lifecycle.

    Financial Management

    • Ensure financial health and success by overseeing all aspects of financial management, including managing the profit and loss statement of the Oil and Gas division.
    • Focus on cost management by monitoring expenses and optimizing to maximize profitability while maintaining efficiency.
    • Develop comprehensive budgets for projects, allocate resources appropriately, and monitor budget performance to identify variances and risks. Regularly analyze financial performance, assess key metrics, and ensure compliance with regulations.

    Risk Management and Compliance

    • The Executive will safeguard the business unit by implementing robust risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate project and business risks.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry-specific requirements, staying updated on changes in laws and standards.
    • Manage risks and compliance to safeguard the organization's reputation and long-term success.

    Team Leadership and Development

    • The Executive will lead the Oil and Gas team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Provide inspirational leadership, set clear vision and direction, and motivate team members to reach their potential.
    • Oversee talent management, including recruitment, mentorship, and development, identifying top talent aligned with Lesedi’s values.
    • Cultivate a supportive work environment that promotes engagement and collaboration through open communication and diverse perspectives.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
    • Professional certification in engineering or project management is advantageous.
    • Additional / advanced qualifications or certifications preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the broader project engineering sector of which 3-5 years’ experience in the oil and gas construction and engineering industry, with demonstrated success in leadership roles.
    • Proven track record of effectively managing a Profit and Loss division.
    • Proven track record of business development, project management, and financial management within the oil and gas or related sector.

    Executive: Risk, Governance And Integration

    PURPOSE OF ROLE

    The Executive for Risk, Governance and Integration holds a crucial position responsible for ensuring the company's adherence to legal and governance standards throughout the company’s operations, identifying and mitigating operational and company risks inherent in engineering, procurement, and construction operations, and providing strategic support and guidance to profit and loss divisions as well as support and enablement functions. This executive is a key member of the company's executive committee, contributing to decision-making processes and overseeing critical functions related to commercial operations, legal affairs, corporate planning, proposals, project controls, engineering standards and processes. This position shall also ensure effective integration with care groups responsible for Engineering, Project Development as well as Project and Construction Management.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    Risk Management Oversight:

    • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical risks across all projects and operations; advising project teams and Managing Executives while developing engineering-specific risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to uphold project integrity and profitability; fostering collaboration and communication among engineering, project management, and development to ensure technical alignment and project success; facilitating knowledge sharing and best practice dissemination across functional areas; managing the company risk register.

    Projects Control (measure & oversight)

    • Developing and implementing robust project control mechanisms to monitor technical performance, engineering deliverables, and project risks effectively (assisting to optimize project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations); establishment of a comprehensive platform for planning, work breakdown structures, estimating, cost control, progress measurement, materials control, and project documentation control. These mechanisms ensure efficient project management and contribute to the successful delivery of projects within scope, time, and budget constraints.

    Commercial and Legal operations

    • Ensuring the company’s adherence to laws and regulations while minimizing legal liability; ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to engineering projects, construction contracts, and procurement activities; thorough assessment and mitigation of legal risks at both national and international levels, with support from Legal counsel; consistent application of contract management practices and timely management of claims are crucial for effective dispute mitigation; providing technical guidance and support on commercial contracts;  reviewing all commercial plans to deliver maximum margin.

    Compliance and Corporate planning

    • Establishing and enforcing compliance frameworks to ensure adherence to engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements; conducting technical audits and assessments proactively to identify and address compliance issues; providing technical guidance and support on commercial contracts, including aligning contract terms with technical requirements and risk mitigation strategies; contributing engineering insights to corporate planning processes to ensure alignment of technical capabilities with strategic objectives; implementing integrated management systems to optimize engineering workflows and improve project outcomes for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in project delivery.

    Processes and procedures

    • Develop and maintain tailored policies to address challenges in areas such as design standards, quality assurance, safety, and risk management; implementation includes communication of the new policies to relevant stakeholders, ensuring training, and integration into project workflows; monitoring compliance across all departments through regular audits and ongoing support to address any issues identified.
    1. Proposals
    • Providing technical oversight and governance in proposal development processes to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with risk assessments; collaborating with proposal teams across the business to effectively integrate engineering considerations into proposals; reviewing and assisting with the preparation of proposals, proposal clarifications, contract negotiation; ensure that proposals meet technical requirements, mitigate risks, and align with organizational objectives.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Electrical)
    • Additional / advanced qualifications or certifications preferred.
    • Extensive experience (minimum of 10 years) in engineering, procurement, and construction roles, with a strong focus on engineering integration, risk management and governance.
    • Must have contract language experience (FIDIC/NEC)
