What will you do?
Santam’s Core Insurance Platform team is looking for a Developer, who will be based in Bellville.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The incumbent will be responsible for development, testing, maintaining and supporting software that meets business requirements on the Santam core insurance platform. 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES (Under guidance of Lead Developer)

•  Adheres to defined software development lifecycles and best practice (including code standards, code reviews, source control, etc.)
•  Configure and develop screens and applications that meet business requirements (UI’s, business logic, rules, process flow, etc.)
•  Build integration web services (API’s)
•  Create test data and provide unit and system integration tests to ensure developed software works according to business requirements, design and specification
•  Considers non-functional requirements during software development (e.g. performance, load, response, etc.)
•  Support and maintain developed applications and services

Generic Functions

•  Contributes and collaborates with team members across the SDLC from business analysis, application design, development and testing in Agile / self-managed team environment
•  Santam systems are available 24/7 and rotational production support is required

Quality Assurance

•  Unit and functional testing of developed software to ensure it meets quality standards
•  Participate in code reviews and technical issue resolution meetings

What will make you successful in this role?
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

•  Relevant Tertiary IT qualification and/or qualification through experience
•  Minimum of 2-4 years’ IT development experience across the systems development lifecycle

 Solid experience in :

•  Java or .NET
•  XML, SQL, JavaScript
•  Object oriented development
•  Web application development
•  Web services (SOAP and JSON)

KNOWLEDGE

•  Knowledge of SOLID principles / Design Patterns and their use
•  Working knowledge of the Atlassian Suite of products (e.g. Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket) and Splunk would be advantageous
•  Knowledge of Agile methodologies e.g. Kanban, SCRUM
•  Knowledge of the short-term insurance industry is advantageous

This career Opportunity is available at SHA Risk Specialists a division of Santam for an Underwriting Assistant, who will be based at Illovo, Johannesburg.

What will make you successful in this role?

Underwriting Assistance

• Generate monthly renewal lists for SME Digital Business

• Ensure the renewal reports are updated timeously.

• Proactively ensure that the renewal process is followed in terms of:

• Distributing renewal invitations via the respective communication tools (mailchimp etc.)

• Follow up on invitations / renewals and secondary follow up’s on new business.

• Assist with the administrative underwriting duties.

• Attend to all system processing related functions within the underwriting area.

Policy Administration (Digital)

• Data capturing of any manually created policy schedules and all related documentation including endorsements.

• All administration related to policies including raising invoices and credit control follow ups.

• Drawing of standard reports if and when required.

• Assist with new user creation on PU

• Test new functionality on PU

• Update of content on PU where required

• Creating new users in Pocket Underwriter

Digital Client Liaison

• Respond to queries and resolve to the satisfaction of the affected parties within the scope of authority and / or responsibility.

• Provision of telephonic backup and answering services to the digital distribution division.

• Manage broker queries on the usage of the Pocket Underwriter

• Handle credit control queries and errors

• Assist with the administrative process of moving risks into the digital platform

• Continuously monitor quality and accuracy of the documents and KIT records produced by the system

• Get involved in ongoing system testing

General Administration

• Liaison with Santam finance department and brokers to resolve credit control issues and accounts issues.

• Drawing of standard reports if and when required.

• Attend to daily administrative routine tasks in accordance with organisational standards, processes and procedures.

• Attend to the typing of general correspondence if and when necessary such as endorsements and cover letters.

The underwriting assistant in this area also has the opportunity to learn the backend of the Pocket Underwriter to continuously improve the user experience of each broker.
