    Patient Journey Partner - Oncology

    The Position

    Roche in either Gauteng or KZN Is seeking a Patient Journey Partner, Oncology.

     

    As a Patient Journey Partner (PJP) you will be at the center of the new Roche organization, turning upside down the role we play in society - from mostly offering world-class medicines towards much more partnering, innovating and leading generative disruption. By doing so the PJP will be directly accountable to deliver better outcomes for patients, their community, the ecosystem and the organisation, faster.

    The PJP is an empowered leader and the local face of Roche. She or he partners closely with all stakeholders directly touching the patient journey (in a given therapeutic or disease area), gaining a deep understanding of their needs in order to connect Roche’s capabilities to co-create meaningful solutions.

    This role is locally embedded in the ecosystem, it is an integrated role, functionally agnostic, (i.e. it does not fit into the traditional concepts of Commercial/Sales or Medical Affairs)

    It has no profitability, sales objectives or incentives.

    Key Challenges

    • The PJP role within the affiliate who has decision making authority to request resources of Roche (both within the affiliate and broader network) in order to have improved impact on the patient journey
    • The PJP focuses on the importance of bringing the outside in, working with partners to uncover all potential opportunities to transform outcomes for patients, faster. They also bring the inside out, to bring Roche expertise, science and knowledge to the ecosystem.
    • Acts as trusted partner and is the primary (but non-exclusive) point of contact between stakeholders and Roche; the PJP shares the patient and stakeholder community needs internally, prioritizes and secures resources, and drives solutions that deliver outcomes faster.
    • Partners with patient journey stakeholders to remove roadblocks and unlock possibilities to deliver value for patients and the community.
    • Stewards Roche’s products through their lifecycle and supports their appropriate use, which includes sharing their merits with HCPs in a truthful and balanced manner.
    • By overseeing the patient journey in its entirety, the PJP acts as a system thinker with the ability to identify shared purpose among stakeholders and The role is empowered to pull in expertise and resources locally and from the network as needed, including in collaboration with other PJPs.

    SHE Expert

    The Position

    •  Roche Diagnostics in Cape Town has an opportunity for a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Expert on an 16 month fixed term contract. 

    Key Challenges

    • Advise employees and teams on a wide range of SHE topics (in particular occupational safety, environmental sustainability and legal SHE compliance) and contribute to the achievement of SHE goals and the implementation of corresponding specifications. In doing so, you exert your influence.
    • Build on a trusting network with Site SHE, Contracting Services, and Group SHE to ensure a suitable communication structure for the resulting topics. Work intensively on the constructive exchange with relevant site functions and ensure that the concerns of the organisation are adequately taken into account.
    • Support the strategic development of the entire organization in the area of SHE.
    • Lead the SHE committee for Roche Diagnostics Cape Town and focus on the SHE goals. Support a working atmosphere through strong team spirit, respect and effective communication and bring an agile way of working into the SHE Committee. The SHE Committee creates an effective working environment for employees, which motivates them and strengthens the team
    • Define SHE programs and projects to close identified gaps and track them effectively, and become the driving force behind the completion of all activities to achieve and maintain SHE compliance in Roche Diagnostics Cape Town. The derivation and monitoring of SHE KPIs to monitor the development of the SHE goals is also part of your area of responsibility.

     Individual tasks and duties

    • Leadership (20%) -  Lead the SHE committee and focus on the achievement of SHE goals and strive for excellent solutions and act agile and in the spirit of our leadership commitments. Proactively promote a positive safety culture that is continuous improvement on all SHE topics as well as the active corporation with all functions.  In your role,  you will advise, inspire and motivate managers , employees and teams on a wide range of SHE tropics and contribute independently to achieving the SHE goals. You will participate in agile sprint teams that inspire each other to achieve top performance and strengthen their members and create an environment with strong team spirit, timely and effective communication, a sense of urgency and high motivation, inspiring teams to achieve goals in the short and longer term.
    • Technical (30%) - You will be responsible for the topics of occupational safety, handling hazardous substances, SHE compliance, Incident Management and independently developing projects in an agile working style, involving the relevant stakeholders, tracking progress and successfully completing them. You will independently plan, implement, check and monitor appropriate protective and preventive measures in accordance with K-Directives and Roche Policy and monitor the risk status. You will be the contact person for Roche Dia Cape Town SHE-relevant questions and topics relating to SHE compliance for Contractors and SHE service-provides. You will ensure, in cooperation with other functions, that all activities comply with local regulations in order to meet Roche's internal compliance requirements and take appropriate measures to ensure or establish SHE compliance.
    • Project and Audit Management (30 %) - Development, implementation and further development of all SHE and Environmental Sustainability projects, taking into account all essential specifications. You will independently plan, implement and monitor appropriate prevention projects and audits to ensure SHE compliance. You will drive projects forward sustainably and coordinate cross-departmental activities and independently develop projects on occupational safety and environmental sustainability issues, follow them up and put SHE compliance first. You will coordinate, communicate and create all safety-related documents with the aim of SHE compliance.
    • Global Collaboration (20 %) -  Support as a team member in global SHE initiatives and sprints.   Development of global Roche standards, active participation in global projects, mentoring and support from other Roche sites when needed in the global network.
    • Authority - You will have direct access to the SHE Manager, the General Manager/Site Head and all other managers and employees of Roche Dia Cape Town and will get all important information about decisions and planned activities first-hand: You may stop any type of activity in case of imminent danger and you may issue detail SHE regulations for the site.

    You, as an ideal candidate, will have the following skills, experience and education:

    • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Science, Safety, Engineering or Industrial Hygiene or similar. A  Master's degree or higher preferred. A qualification as a specialist in occupational safety is a distinct advantage.
    • Experience: 3-6 years of EHS / SHE experience in a production environment in the Diagnostics, Medtech or Pharmaceutical / Chemical / Biotech industry.  1 or more years of experience as a project manager for SHE projects in interdisciplinary teams.

    Principal Bioinformatics Scientist I

    Position summary

    • As an experienced bioinformatician at the level of Principal Bioinformatics Scientist I in the Computational Science and Informatics (CSI) Chapter Area of Roche Diagnostics Solutions, you will provide support for product research and development, as well as the marketing, sales and on-market product support teams. You will collaborate and innovate with bioinformatics scientists, software engineers and  molecular biologists to build products that will impact patient care for many years to come. You will collaborate on developing novel algorithms and bespoke software for processing and delivering insights from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and other omics data, taking the lead on projects as required. As part of this, you will perform R&D on the application of next-generation NoSQL databases in biomedical knowledge representation and discovery.

    Responsibilities

    • Partner closely with R&D teams to provide bioinformatics expertise including experimental design, data analysis and visualization.
    • Propose and build novel analysis methods or algorithms and bespoke pipelines as needed.
    • Collaborate broadly to drive innovation and promote cohesive teamwork internally and externally.
    • Serve as a bioinformatics subject matter expert on project teams.
    • Assist on-market support teams in training and with handling customer enquiries as needed. 
    • Ensure adherence to  best practices for coding, version control, pipeline development, documentation and reproducible research.
    • Lead or participate in bioinformatics tools development, data analysis and insights generation.
    • Present technical reports and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including project teams, other departments, collaborators, and customers.

    Requirements

    • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Statistics, or other quantitative field with 7+ years experience; or PhD with 4+ years of experience. (Advanced degree highly preferred).
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and able to work in a cross-functional team environment, leading and/or influencing when appropriate. 
    • Able to plan, prioritise and work independently with minimal supervision, using discretion and independent judgment within broadly defined practices and policies.
    • In-depth working experience with NGS data analysis e.g. WGS, exome, RNAseq
    • Experience developing and applying Bioinformatics workflows, methods and/or systems.
    • Demonstrable proficiency in coding and associated code version control in a language such as Python, JAVA, R, C++, etc. Knowledge of software standards and coding best practices is a plus.
    • Hands-on experience using a workflow management system, e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow in a Unix/Linux high performance computing environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal English communication and scientific presentation skills

    Field Service Engineer

    The Position

    • Roche Diagnostics in Johannesburg has an opportunity for a Field Services Engineer to provide diagnostic instrumentation post-sales technical support in accordance with the manufacturers specifications and Roche Diagnostics standards.

    Key Challenges:

    Technical Support

    • Resolve/take accountability for cases by receiving case, contacting client, providing telephonic support (if possible) and coordinating resolution of case within SLA/deadline.
    • Provide technical support on site by coordinating appointment to resolve case with key contact at customer, organizing required parts and equipment and providing support within deadline / SLA.
    • Coordinate resolution of escalated technical cases by identifying issues that require escalation, referring to appropriate escalation process, providing feedback to customers, internal sales and line manager, following up until resolved and closing case within customer expectations.
    • Follow-up with customers after cases are closed by contacting clients via telephone or email, verifying case is fully resolved, reopen/open cases if the issue is reoccurring and resolve within deadline.
    • Proactively provide technical support to customers by receiving adhoc customer support requests while on site, after hours etc., by receiving request for support from customer, logging case on system, providing technical support and closing case or distributing case correctly immediately.

    Modifications

    • To conduct modifications by receiving notification of modification/enhancements, upskilling on technical requirements, contacting customers to schedule modification and conducting as per specifications and standards and within deadline  To manage the modification projects by engaging with internal stakeholders and providing technical guidance on.

    Installations & De-Installations

    • Initiate installation / de-installation projects by being appointed as project installation lead, engaging with Project Manager, agreeing installation requirements and specifications, conducting site inspection, understanding customer expectations and requirements and developing installation plan within deadline.
    • Conduct installation /de-installation by preparing all equipment and parts and installing system according to specifications, installation manuals and standards within deadline and as per plan.

    Customer Service Support

    • Maintain a customer centric approach with all customer engagements by aligning with the Roche values,  maintaining professionalism, providing quality technical support and advice and delivering according to their expectations and SLA at all times.
    • Proactively resolve customer issues by conducting courtesy visits, identifying potential issues and resolving and taking preventative action at all times.

    Administration

    • Provide customers with all case relevant documentation by completing case reporting, collating documentation and issuing (email/print and issue) to the customer within deadline. 
    • Manage customer support stock levels (boot-stock)  by reconciling stock, recording stock utilisation, ordering additional stock, complying with the used and unused returns authorisation and the stock control processes at all times.
    • Address stock discrepancies by identifying inconsistencies, refer to relevant department for resolution and follow-up until resolved monthly.
    • Complete expense reporting by complying with the T&E policy and system requirements monthly and as required.
    • Complete overtime reports by capturing overtime, signing and submitting by deadline monthly. 
    • Maintain an up to date and accurate planning board and team planner by capturing daily and long term planned activities according to standards and by daily deadline.
    • Maintain technical compliance standards by completing e-learning modules or training and achieving required compliance standards as required and within deadline.
    • Maintain tools of trade by verifying and maintaining calibration and storing and maintaining according to specifications and standards at all times.

    You, as an ideal candidate, will have the following skills, experience and education:

    • Essential: National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Technology or equivalent (NQF Level 6)
    • Preferred: BTech or related degrees as per the above (NQF Level 7)
    • Experience: 2-3 years technical support services experience - medical diagnostic industry , specifically IVD industry experience is preferred.
    • The successful candidate needs to be in possession of a valid drivers license and have a valid passport (within 3 months of employment)
