    Director Financial Management and Reporting (B837) - (1543)

    Job Requirements

    • Honours degree in Accounting, or Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences, or CTA
    • Professional registration (ACCA, CIA, CIMA, SAIBA, SAICA, SAIPA)
    • Eight years of managerial experience.
    • Seven (7) years of experience in financial reporting, consolidated statements, and Management reports.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Experience in the higher education sector will be an advantage.
    • Registration as a Chartered Accountant will be an added advantage

    Duties:

    Strategic Financial Leadership

    • Provide strategic direction aligned with University goals.
    • Lead implementation of the Financial Business Partnering model.
    • Drive long‑term financial sustainability initiatives.

    Financial Management

    • Manage departmental income and expenditure budgets.
    • Compile institutional personnel, capital, and operational budgets.
    • Develop financial control and savings measures.
    • Support line managers with budget control and fund management.
    • Monitor expenditure against income and initiate corrective action.
    • Design and maintain effective budget and forecast models, as well as ensure the implementation of an effective budget management system.
    • Lead the preparation and oversight of institutional financial reporting in full compliance with all applicable reporting frameworks, including the development, review, and submission of IFRS‑compliant Annual Financial Statements (AFS). Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of all statutory and internal financial reports.
    • Coordinate, consolidate, and quality‑assure all divisional financial reports submitted to the Vice‑Chancellor, Executive Management, Council oversight committees, and other internal and external stakeholders.
    • General Ledger Management

    Operational Management of Finance Function

    • Manage the performance output of the department.
    • Monitor activities in consultation with internal and external auditors.
    • Account and Report finances in line with IFRS and DHET regulations.
    • Oversee departmental administrative processes

     Audit & Risk Management

    • Manage internal and external audits.
    • Oversee implementation of audit findings.
    • Manage portfolio risks and financial risk exposure.

    Governance & Accountability

    • Participate in governance structures.
    • Report continuously to EMC, Finance Committee, and Audit & Risk Committee.
    • Ensure compliance with the tax legislation for the university and all its subsidiaries and associates

    Human Resources Management

    • Provide strategic input on staffing structures.
    • Lead transformation, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within the department.
    • Manage the performance, development, and productivity of the staff of the department.
    • Oversee recruitment, retention, and succession planning of the department.

    Stakeholder Relationship Management

    • Foster and maintain alliances with internal and external stakeholders.

    Job Requirements

    • Honours degree in Business or Public Administration, Corporate Governance, Law, or related field or alternatively a Post Graduate Diploma (NQF level 8) with specialization in Governance or Company Secretaryship. 
    • A minimum of seven (7) years' relevant experience in committee administration, governance, law, or corporate services.
