    Cost Controller

    • The Cost Controller will be responsible for Cost Control Services including but not limited to those of cost estimating, budget control, cost forecasting, cost reporting and cost risk analysis.

    As a successful candidate, you should;

    • Maintain a healthy project within the project budget and ensure compliance to project governance
    • Designs and formulates the financial control for a project and should be able to develop and execute the Cost Management Plan and provide the Project Manager with accurate and up to date cost information to facilitate sound project decision making.
    • Finalize coding of all detailed estimate line items using baselined project control budget in order to establish package/control budgets.
    • Monitors planning and project / progress achievements of milestones and using the project schedule to generate data and curves for each cost profile.
    • Takes part in the financial aspects of the tender process. Assign budget for procurement packages, perform budget reconciliation or scope and pricing and produce reconciliation statement to support recommendations for award.
    • Reviews payment applications in compliance with contract agreements and approves payment certificates.
    • Record and maintain commitments based on procurement contracts, contract amendments, contract change notices, PO revisions
    • Attend periodic reviews and establish and maintain forecasts for all packages and ensure full coding, based on EPCM status report, expenditures (ex-Project Accountant) and project changes/trends (e.g. Trend and Change Coordinator)
    • Forecast project contingency requirements, escalation, forex, currencies etc.
    • Import detailed actual cost and commitment data into cost system and run complete detailed baseline cost report by package
    • Participate in the trending and change management process and incorporate approved trends into the project estimate at completion.
    • Update and maintain budget with approved PCNs
    • Produce cost reports and analyze variances
    • Generate data and curves for each cost profile (baselines and periodic updates)
    • Update budget, commitment, forecast, payment and cost statement for monthly report.
    • Obtain EPCM cost and progress info and update EPCM status report
    • Attend periodic reviews and establish and maintain forecasts for all packages
    • Good knowledge of project management principles
    • Presentation skills

     
    What you bring to the role;

    • Tertiary qualification in engineering or related discipline or appropriate project related experience
    • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience as a Cost Controller/Cost Technician in a multidiscipline project environment.

    Electrical Engineer

    The Electrical Engineer will be part of the Technologies Power and Control team providing engineering services to large and small projects mainly in the mining, smelting and energy sectors. These projects will be specifically related to Hatch Technologies focused on Power and Energy.

    The Electrical Engineer:

    • is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, scopes of work, technical specifications, data sheets bill of quantities and reports.
    • is also responsible for assistance/participation in on-site commissioning.
    • will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on small projects, i.e., functions as the Lead Electrical Engineer on small projects.
    • should also be able to work on research, development, and improvement of existing, and possibly new, Hatch Technologies.

    As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

    • Study, understanding, implementation and improvement of Hatch technologies from an electrical point of view, mainly in the mining, smelting and energy sectors.
    • Assist with development of existing and new Hatch technologies, which might require Research and Development.
    • Complete electrical related simulations using software like ETAP/PowerFactory, MATLAB/Simulink, Magnet/Thermnet (FEA/FEMM).
    • Complete power quality measurements, analysis and reporting.
    • Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.

    • Prepare, with the help of designers and draftsmen, single line diagrams, general layout drawings, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, schematic drawings, cable/termination schedules and as-built documentation.
    • Manage and coordinate with the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule, and procedures.
    • Review shop drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.
    • Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering designs.
    • Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
    • Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer to measure, the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met.  Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in implementing corrective actions as required.
    • Assist the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers in reviewing the outcome of quality audits of engineering work and perform remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan.
    • Assist the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers in ensuring that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures.
    • Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in the preparation of engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering report.
    • Assist in the commissioning and inspections/fault finding on site as required.

    You bring to the role;

    Essential

    • BSc/B.Eng degree in power/electrical engineering (M.Eng/MSc preferred).
    • Registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate for professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.
    • Minimum five years project engineering experience or relevant experience (see “Preferred”). Experience in electrical design/consultancy ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project environment.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Civil Engineer

The Civil Engineering Lead will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. Projects will range from local government developments (e.g. schools, hospitals, road developments) to large mining/energy/infrastructure mega-projects. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for delivering quality design work, drawings and documentation to Hatch’s Clients.
    The Civil Engineer is responsible for producing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports for both front end planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects. The Civil Engineer may be responsible for supervising a team of civil, hydrotechnical, geotechnical engineers as well as designers, draftspersons and GIS analysts, depending on the project’s needs. The role will also entail management roles that require obtaining approvals from local government councils/authorities, engaging with Clients and Contractors, handling site queries and producing tender documentation. 
    The Civil Engineering Lead provides leadership and assists in the resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline. The Civil Engineer participates in a wide range of projects that may cover earthworks, road and rail design and associated bridges, villages, residential and commercial developments, schools, utilities including pump stations, dams, drainage for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects. 

     Key Responsibilities 

    •   Assist other Lead Civil Engineers or the Engineering Manager with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule 
    •   Prepare/assign work tasks (via signed off Engineering Work Packages) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality 
    •   Develop the manpower schedule to be part of the engineering and project schedule in conjunction with the other disciplines 
    •   Develop the civil work plan for insertion into the project specific execution plan 
    •   Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports 
    •   Represent the discipline in the project engineering coordination meetings 
    •   Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria
    •   Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists 
    •   Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required and facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and other Hatch offices

    Project Procurement Manager

    Hatch is currently seeking Procurement & Contracts Manager to join our team in the Greenstone  Hill Office, Johannesburg South Africa.

    The Procurement & Contracts Manager is involved in a project from the proposal/study (FEL3) phase up to the project close-out and handover of the project execution phase. The major interfaces are with project management, engineering, project controls and construction management to ensure a cross functional implementation of materials management and contracts management processes.

    The Procurement & Contracts Manager directs, controls and co-ordinates the procurement of engineering/ construction services, equipment and materials for the project obtaining optimum performances with regards to cost, technical requirements and quality to satisfy the project budget and schedule. The Procurement Manager is the custodian of the entire procurement cycle which includes logistics and materials management and contracts management at the home and/or site offices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for drafting/coordinating/compiling Materials Management and Contracts Management strategies and plans as well as the Procurement section of the Project Execution Plan (PEP)
    • Responsible for implementing all procurement processes and procedures including forms and templates to be used on the project
    • Responsible for the entire project procurement lifecycle from the procurement package definition stage to the closeout stage

    • Extensive experience on an EPCM project environment with capital projects, specifically in a management role
    • Related training in Contracts/Legal as well as general project and management related training
    • Experience with drafting of commercial terms and conditions and an understanding of accompanying legal implications
    • Proficient negotiation skills
    • Excellent understanding of procurement processes which include both materials and contracts management and corporate governance principles.
    • Knowledge and understanding of quality systems, environmental, health and safety regulations, expediting techniques and Incoterms applications

    As the successful candidate, you will:
     
    •    be responsible for the overall planning, direction, organization, and budgeting of all construction on the project to the highest safety and quality levels within time and costs constraints. The Construction Manager participates in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversees organization, scheduling and implementation strategy.
     
    You bring to the role: 
     
    •    Responsible for all safety planning associated with the project construction execution methods selection, with support of the Project Manager and Site Health and Safety Manager
    •    Responsible through the constructability coordinator to set up and oversee the constructability process

    •    Liaises with the Project Manager and the project core team of design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel and other personnel as required in setting priorities to ensure timely construction performance
    •    Liaises with Client team, Engineers and Contractors to deliver the project in a safe manner, on time and within budget
    •    Liaison between Contractor and Engineers to resolve field engineering queries
    •    Develop site organization and staffing requirements required to execute construction activities within project schedule and acceptable costs
    •    Direct, monitor and motivate subordinate construction specialists in performance and direct activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved
    •    Ensure adherence to all local regulations and statutory requirements in site activities planning
    •    Assist the procurement team to review contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and contractors
    •    Liaise with client representatives as required to ensure shutdowns, relocations, tie ins, etc. are planned safely and in a timely manner with minimum disruption

    Qualifications and Experience
    •    National Diploma/Degree in Engineering
    •    Minimum of 12 to 15 years’ experience in construction of which 5 to 7 years should be Construction Management 
    •    Experience in the EPCM mining and construction environment
    •    Experience in Furnace projects
    •    Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the construction phase of project delivery, and extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures, safe work practices, and applicable legislation
    •    Registration as Professional Construction Manager with SACPCMP or equivalent will be advantageous
    •    Strong leadership skills, the ability to lead a team and fit into a team environment
    •    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    •    Effective report writing skills, planning and organizational skills
    •    Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
    •    Able to communicate directly with the client on key issues
    •    Extensive knowledge of all phases of construction operations
