    Railway Signaling Engineer

    About the Job

    Hatch is seeking experienced Signal and Train Control engineers in Johannesburg office in South Africa. The ideal candidates should have 3 or more years of relevant experience including design, installation, signal system testing, and operation and maintenance of railroad and/or rail transit signal systems.  Desirable design experience includes signal and train control systems, Automatic Train Control, PTC, microprocessor and relay-based interlockings, and level crossing warning systems. Candidates must be skilled in the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, cost estimating, field verification, inspection, and testing.  Project Management experience and a registered Professional Engineer is a plus.

    • Ability to read circuit diagrams, relay logic, and Boolean/software logic programs.
    • Fluency with basic computer applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and PDF tools.  Experience with CAD tools such as MicroStation or AutoCAD is a plus.

    Clerk of Works

    Intermediate Civil Engineer - Cape Town

    About The Job

    • The Civil Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects.     Supplier Development Manager

    Job Summary

    The SD Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Supplier Development Management Plans (SDMP) and thereby ensuring the project will meet or exceed the project supplier development requirements on behalf of our clients.  The SD Manager oversees the Supplier Development Coordinator where applicable.  The SD Manager is expected to be familiar with the Hatch, clients, and national Broad-Based Black Economic Development (B-BBEE) and Supplier Development Code of Conduct and Guidelines.

    • Agrees, as part of the project leadership team, the overall execution strategy as set out in the Project Execution Plan (PEP) as it pertains to SD
    • Is responsible for the development of the SDMP that considers the requirements of all the key stakeholders. The developed plan (on its proper implementation) must ensure that Hatch will deliver on its contractual SD obligations
    • Compile and implement the supplier development strategies aligned to the broader national policy and regulatory framework   
    • Liaise with project management, procurement managers and project controls services on the expected SD outcomes 
    • Implement, monitor and evaluate the SD initiatives as committed to in the SDMP 
    • Manage key stakeholder relations with communities across the project to ensure that there is consistent implementation, monitoring and reporting of SD initiatives
    • Assist in training initiatives for SD, B-BBEE policies and procedures to drive compliance

    Structural Designer - Cape Town

    About the Job

    • The Structural Designer is responsible for the production of civil/structural 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Designer and/or Engineer. The Structural Designer is required to apply specialized and/or advanced engineering principles at a conceptual level. This would be a contract position for up to twelve months.

    SAP PS and Omega PIMS Support Analyst

    Summary

    The SAP Project Systems and PIMS Project Management Support Analyst (in short, the Support Analyst) supports the Hatch iPas PM application. iPas PM is currently built on the SAP PS (Project Systems), CPM (Commercial Project Management) and Timesheets modules, as well as other non-SAP modules. In the future this will include the Omega 360 PIMS module.

    iPas PM provides functionality for Prime Contract Management on all Hatch projects. The Support
    Analyst will play an important role in user support, with the responsibility to assist users, trouble shoot and take on tasks to ensure that users are able to manage their prime contracts in an efficient manner. They are responsible for problem ownership and resolution, combined with superior customer satisfaction and service level attainment, for any support requests for iPas PM. 

    The Support Analyst interacts directly with end users to help them troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with iPas PM. They assume full ownership of the support request, ensuring it is resolved in a timely manner, or escalated appropriately to other support analysts, IT, the Functional team or Functional Support for review and input.

    The Support Analyst will support users on every continent and must be flexible as to working hours. Working hours will frequently overlap North American or Australian time zones.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage, support, co-ordinate and resolve issues relating to iPas PM and iPas TF
    • Provide first level support by identifying and resolving system problems and assisting end users in the use of iPas PM for prime contract management and iPas TF for Time

    The Senior Piping Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing project and engineering services to large and small projects. The Senior Piping Engineer defines and develops the plan to meet the Project requirements and manages a team of piping engineers and designers to ensure regulatory code compliance and quality of deliverables.  In addition, the Senior Piping Engineer assists in achieving the required project schedules and costs and resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline.

    • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures
    • Manage Piping system requirements to achieve the Project results and monitor effectiveness
    • Represent the Piping practice in project engineering co-ordination meetings
    • Ensure co-ordination, between the Piping team and other disciplines of all activities being performed as the design evolves
    • Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with Project procedures and the quality assurance plan and maintain technical documentation
    • Participate in the selection of Project piping candidates
    • Participate in HAZOP reviews
    • Ensure resolution of Piping issues during Project lifecycle, including planning phase, design, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning
    • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of Piping engineering work
    • Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture.

    You bring to the role;

    Essential

    • Strong leadership skills
    • BSc/B.Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Registration as a professional engineer
    • Minimum eight years piping engineering experience with a minimum five years project engineering experience or equivalent relevant experience
    • Ability to manage and motivate individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
    • Strong deliverable focus, ability to plan the work
    • A high degree of understanding of inter-discipline dependencies related to the discipline
    • Good understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies
    • Technical exposure to specialist technologies related to the Project
    • Good understanding of Company systems and workflows as they relate to the Piping practice
    • Thorough understanding of the Company HSEC policy and standards
    • Sound knowledge of Piping codes and standards applicable to the Project
    • Sound technical knowledge of Piping, including P&ID development, line sizing, material selection, isolation requirements and valve selection.
    • Familiarity with the requirements and application of pipe stress analysis
    • Knowledge of advanced Piping systems and management tools
    • Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
    • Site experience in a Piping technical role.

    Responsibilities of a succesful candidate;

    Daily tasks would vary based on the current project, but responsibilities would typically include:

    • Advanced engineering analysis, including modelling using the Finite Element Method (Finite Element Analysis (FEA));
    • Project planning and management to meet budget, schedule, and quality requirements;
    • Design optimization and solution development for challenging problems;
    • Interfacing with clients and vendors;
    • Site visits for project work and result presentation;
    • Engaging with clients for technical work and business development;

    As a succesful candidate, you will;

    We are looking to hire a mechanical or structural engineer into the Specialized Engineering (SE) group who has 0-5 years of experience, therefore ranging from a graduate to mid-senior level. The focus of SE is to provide specialized engineering expertise and services. These would include, but are not limited to, advanced numerical analysis (for example, FEA), Fitness-for-Service Assessments, field measurements and inspections and technology development. Our work is highly diverse, including opportunities to work on unique and challenging projects across all the industries that Hatch serves. This job requires close interaction with personnel within the SE group, from other engineering disciplines and our clients organizations. We are looking for a candidate with the following attributes:

    • Excellent academic performance and a demonstrated interest in structural and/or thermomechanical engineering of industrial equipment;
    • Strong fundamentals in theory and application of solid mechanics / dynamics / FEA;
    • 0-5 years of experience in the application of numerical methods to practical engineering problems
    • Preferably has completed their masters in engineering
    • Has taken courses and / or done numerical simulations at a post -graduate level, or in another role, and demonstrates a passion and aptitude for numerical analysis;
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team on challenging projects, as this job requires heavy interaction with engineers within the SE group and from other disciplines, to perform detailed engineering analysis.
    • Organizational ability to manage multiple projects / priorities in a fast-paced environment;
    • Eagerness to learn new engineering concepts and apply them to novel projects and technology;
    • Fast learner with an eagerness to develop engineering fundamentals and apply them to solving challenging real-world problems and projects;
