    Shift Supervisor Mining

    Job Description:

    As a Shift Supervisor Mining you will focus on safe quality of work, achieving of production targets, housekeeping, supervising and coordinating support functions. Below are some of the key responsibilities critical to the role.

    Key responsibilities of this role are:

    • Ensure the maintenance of proper discipline of all persons under your charge.
    • Daily on-the-job coaching and on-site training sessions should be conducted and captured in the logbook.
    • Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without undue risk to the health of employees within your area of responsibility.
    • Make use of the latest Risk Matrix provided in the logbook to assess and eliminate or reduce risks
    • Ensure that you and the persons under your charge are empowered to stop any working place when the Occupational Health and/or Safety of any such persons are endangered in terms of section 23 of the MHSA.
    • Consider an employee’s training and capability, knowledge and skill in respect of Health and Safety before allowing such person to continue with his work or before assigning specific or specialized tasks to that employee.
    • Assist in the control over the proper safe operation and running of machinery and equipment in your area of responsibility.

    Qualifications:

    You will need the following:

    • Matric/ Grade 12
    • National Certificate NQF Level 3 Rock Breaker or Valid Blasting Certificate for underground (Hard Rock)
    • Shift Supervisor Certificate
    • Mine overseer certificate - Advantageous

    Experience

    • 3+ years’ experience as a Mechanised Shift Supervisor (Shift Boss)
    • Previous experience as a Mechanised Miner – advantageous

    Additional Requirements:

    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
    • Computer literacy
    • First Aid Certificate
    • Valid certificate of fitness for underground work or able to obtain one

    Software Developer (PowerBI Reporting)

    Job Description:

    You will be responsible for the implementation, supporting and enhancing of mine technical systems. This includes systems integration, report writing, system development and database development & maintenance. Along with this, you will be responsible for Data Management and System Integration Management of various technical systems.

    Your role will:

    • Promote safety through participating in Safety, Health & Environmental reviews, recommend appropriate actions where necessary, keep abreast of Safety, Health & Environment industry best practices and ensuring communication to stakeholders, peer groups and reporting staff.
    • Continuously monitor, archive and clean-up of databases for the various Mine Technical Systems.
    • Develop and maintain reports for the various systems for analysis and decision making by the different sections in the mine and for the different projects when required.
    • Supporting Control Room team with regards to systems functioning optimally 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.
    • Ensure data integrity.

    Qualifications:

    Formal education:

    • Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualifications.
    • Relevant National Diploma in Information Technology (System Development) and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (Or Equivalent) qualifications with PowerBI modules.

    Additional requirements:

    • Valid EB/Code 8 Drivers License.
    • Successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine.
    • Your consideration for employment is subject to your SAPS Criminal Record verification and qualifications verification.

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in systems development, of which 3 years must be solid work experience in:
    1. PowerBI and / or
    2. WebMethods
    • Mining automation system experience (advantageous).

    • General knowledge of Information Management and Information Security processes and procedures and how it is applied to current and future technologies.
    • Advanced knowledge of System integration.

    Process Supervisor

    Job Description:

    To supervise a team of 3 Treatment Plant Operators to sort, catalogue in LIMS, pack for transport and dispatch an estimated 25,000 boxes of laboratory residue samples. The samples are located in four storage sheds at the Kimberley Microdiamond Laboratory. The incumbent will largely operate independently from the KMDL.

    Your role would involve:

    Supervising a team by:

    • Tracking team productivity and reporting same
    • Managing team attendance
    • Procuring packaging supplies and services as needed
    • Collaborating with KMDL staff for logistics and technical support
    • Resolving bottlenecks to ensure production proceeds smoothly by reporting them and seeking support from the Project Manager and/or KMDL management
    • Contacting external suppliers for support and services to obtain quotes and discuss requirements. To be procured through De Beers supply chain

    Sample handling:

    • Unpacking of cardboard sample boxes and repacking of same into steel pails
    • Cataloguing of samples and data entry to LIMS Sample Storage Module
    • Separation of sample material from packaging for selected samples identified for disposal rather than relocation
    • Loading of pails to stillages

    This is a fixed-term contract and will come to conclusion once the project has been completed. This is estimated to be up to 30 months.

    Qualifications:

    Formal education:

    • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 related qualification

    Additional requirements:

    • Intermediate computer literacy for LIMS operation
    • Intermediate computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite products
    • Physical health: tasks will be labour intensive
    • Successfully obtain a Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground
    • The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company’s pre-employment protocol such as qualifications’ verification, relevant psychometric assessments, and a clear security clearance

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Demonstrated previous experience in managing a small team.
    • Clear and accurate verbal and written English communication skills to manage a team independently and report progress to Project Management
    • Logical, structured thinking with attention to detail
    • Familiarity with De Beers consignment/sample numbering systems is an advantage

    Blasting Assistant

    Job Description:

    The Blasting Assistant is responsible for assisting the holder of blasting certificate (Miner) in exercising control over the explosives to be used for blasting (Receive, secure storage, transport, issue and charging up).

    Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Blasting assistant may sign for receiving of explosives but the Blasting Certificate Holder must still sign the delivery slip during the day or at the end of the shift in MO office.
    • The blasting assistant must ensure that explosives are delivered to the working place not more than 2 hours before charging up commences.
    • Assist the miner in preparation of primers for secondary hang ups.
    • Assist the miner with timing of blasting rounds.
    • Assist the miner in preparation of Mud Blast.

    This role is in the Mining Department at a BU Level and reporting to the Miner.

    Qualifications:

    Education required:

    • Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
    • Competent B and Blasting Assistance Underground certificate
    • Required classification as per VTS testing for specific role Orange
    • Valid EB/Code 8 Drivers License
    • Computer Literacy - MS Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook) (advantageous)

    Experience & knowledge required:

    • Minimum of 1 year’s practical experience in an underground mining environment
    • Sound knowledge and experience of:
    1. Underground blasting practices and operations
    2. Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining

    Other requirements:

    • Be prepared to work shifts, do standby duties, call-outs, and work overtime as per what the role may require  Must have strong administrative and organisational skills
    • Ability to work under pressure, be independent and a self-starter
    • Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground. Medical assessment will include vertigo and claustrophobia amongst others. Able to tolerate physical exertion
    • The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company’s pre-employment protocol such as qualifications verification, relevant psychometric and technical assessments and security clearance.
