Old Mutual Group Assurance (GAP) is a leader in the Group Risk market. This market position has been achieved through a focus on consistency in service excellence and product innovation in group risk products.
Old Mutual Group Assurance Products (GAP) is seeking an experienced actuarial student to fulfil the role of a Senior Actuarial Specialist, supporting the GAP Product & Risk Actuary. The incumbent will be involved in regular product reviews and product maintenance with the focus being to maintain GAP’s excellence in product management. The incumbent would also be responsible for the pricing of large group risk arrangements and assisting with the development and implementation of the reinsurance strategy (both long and short term). The incumbent will be expected to interact with clients, intermediaries and internal stakeholders at all levels.
Core responsibilities of the role will include:
Assisting with and input into the development and implementation of a framework for performing regular product reviews
Maintenance and/or enhancements of the existing group risk product range; e.g review of benefits and pricing, maximum benefits, policy contracts and terms & conditions
Provide thought leadership and actuarial expertise to a cross-functional team reviewing key features of existing group risk product suite
Provide technical oversight and support, i.t.o. group risk products to servicing areas
Provide support in performing market research & competitor analysis to inform product strategy
Identify, manage and mitigate risks (and associated controls) in the business relating to group assurance products & assisting with the reporting thereof to the relevant governing committees
Managing of and reporting on both the inwards and outwards reinsurance requirements for the group risk products for GAP; including (inter alia) auto-treaty, facultative and international pooling arrangements
Assisting in setting the strategic reinsurance strategy for GAP, both long and short term
Pricing of large and complex group risk arrangements
Training & development of junior actuarial students
Requirements:
Senior actuarial student making good progress with exams (exceptional candidates who don’t meet this requirement may be considered)
Substantial actuarial experience (a minimum of 3 years)
Strong analytical and technical skills
Ability to run projects independently
Ability to work across teams and collaborate with various stakeholders
Good communication skills and have the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels
Highly motivated and energetic self-starter who is good at working with complex tasks under tight
deadlines
Exposure to products or pricing roles would be an advantage
Group Assurance pricing experience would be an advantage
Experience in the Group Risk or Employee Benefits industry would be an advantage

Job Description

A vacancy now exists for a Senior Actuarial Specialist (role size N) in Group Assurance Products to support the Group Risk Pricing Actuary. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining GAP’s excellence in pricing of large group schemes, with a focus on the development and maintenance of pricing methodology and pricing tools.
Key Result Areas
The incumbent will be expected to interact with clients, intermediaries and internal stakeholders at all levels. Core responsibilities of the role will include:
Pricing of large and complex group risk arrangements, ensuring the retention of profitable business and that new business is written on a competitive but also financially sound basis
Develop, enhance and maintain all aspects of experience-rating methodology and assumptions for large group risk schemes, particularly in light of emerging covid-19 experience
Development and maintenance of innovative pricing tools with a focus on improving accuracy, efficiency and facilitating actuarial judgement through analytics
Managing both the profitability and volatility of the portfolio through the use of reinsurance, and designing tools to support this function
Continuous improvement of pricing and business processes
Automation of models to enhance efficiency
Ensure compliance with model risk policy as part of the risk management framework
Accountability for the development and maintenance of appropriate IT infrastructure to support group risk pricing
Training & development of junior actuarial students
Qualifications and Experience required
Senior actuarial student making good progress with actuarial exams (exceptional candidates who don’t meet this requirement may be considered)
At least 3 years actuarial experience
Exposure to group risk products or group risk pricing roles would be a distinct advantage
Strong analytical and technical skills
Strong VBA and excel skill
Strong business acumen
Ability to run projects independently
Good communication skills and have the ability to work across teams and to interact and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
Ability to think different in developing client-centric solutions

To complement the existing Data Management team, Old Mutual Finance is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will design and implement scalable and robust processes to support the data engineering capability. This role will be responsible for implementing and supporting the data ecosystem in Old Mutual Finance.
This thought leader will use best practices in cloud engineering, data management and data storage to continue our drive to optimize the way data is stored, consumed and ultimately democratized. The incumbent will also collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation with use of the Data Engineering practices to facilitate the improvement in the way data is stored and consumed.
In this role, you will get to:
Design and implement scalable and robust processes for ingesting and transforming datasets.
Design, implement and support the creation and maintenance of data pipelines from a multitude of sources.
Ingest large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
Enable the business to solve the problem of working with large volumes of data in diverse formats, and in doing so, enable innovative solutions.
Design and build bulk and delta data lift patterns for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
Ensure that all data solutions support the organisation’s cloud strategy and aligns to the data architecture and governance including implementation of these data governance practices.
Engineer data in the appropriate formats for downstream customers, risk and product analytics or enterprise applications.
Development of API’s for returning data to Enterprise Applications.

Work with various stakeholders across the organisation to understand data requirements and apply deep technical knowledge of data management to solve key business problems.
Provide specialised support in the operational environment with all relevant support teams for data services.

Create and maintain functional requirements and system specifications in support of data architecture and detailed design specifications for current and future designs.
Support test and deployment of new services and features.
What you will need to succeed (knowledge, skills and experience):
Matric, with a degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Engineering.
5+ years of data engineering experience.
Experience with designing and implementing cloud, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS), solutions.
5+ years of experience with any data warehouse technical architectures, ETL/ELT, and reporting/analytics tools including, but not limited to, any of the following combinations (1) SSIS and SSRS, (2) SAS ETL Framework, (3) SAP ETL Framework, (4) MongoDB ETL deployments, (5) Apache Spark and Apache Hive deployments will be beneficial.
The candidate having DBA ability and knowledge across at least 2 platforms (example: TSQL, SAS, PSQL, IBM VSAM and DB2 etc.) will also be beneficial.
Experience with Dev/OPS architecture, implementation and operation.
Knowledge of Engineering and Operational Excellence using standard methodologies. Best practices in software engineering, data management, data storage, data computing and distributed systems to solve business problems with data.
Experience in applying SAFe/Scrum/Kanban methodologies.
Knowledge and understanding of business process management lifecycle which covers the design, modelling, execution, monitoring, and optimization as well as business process re-engineering.
Strong problem solving skills: The ability to exercise judgment in solving technical, operational, and organizational challenges, to identify issues proactively, to present solutions and options leading to resolution.
Expert programming, performance tuning and troubleshooting skills, using the latest popular programming languages such as python, scala, java and suite of Microsoft languages C# and F# preferable.
