    Senior Lecturer/Lecturer x2

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Teaching and assessment across Electrical Engineering: Power programmes (Diploma to Doctoral level).
    • Curriculum development and review within the relevant area of specialisation.
    • Contribution to departmental quality assurance processes.
    • Compliance with and contribution to ECSA accreditation and regulatory requirements.
    • Development, coordination and delivery of Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) in the relevant field.
    • Supervision of postgraduate research up to doctoral level (postdoctoral supervision where applicable).
    • Research productivity in the field of specialisatipon, including accredited journal publications, book chapters, and patents.
    • Planning, coordination and monitoring of Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
    • Industry engagement, including consultancy, partnerships, and collaborative research.
    • Participation in community engagement and flagship projects.
    • Execution of academic and student administration, including reporting, aligned with the role.
    • Service on departmental, faculty and institutional committees.
    • Performance of ad hoc duties as assigned by the line manager.

    APPLICATION CRITERIA :

    SENIOR LECTURER:

    Critera A (Qualification):

    • PhD/Doctorate in Electrical Engineering: Power.
    • Master’s Degrees (MEng/ MTech/ MScEng, NQF 9) in Electrical Engineering: Power.
    • Bachelor (BEng/ BTech/ BSc Eng, NQF 8) in Power Engineering.
    • Eligibility for registration with ECSA under professional engineering or technologist category.
    • (ECSA registration is compulsory for applicants with foreign qualifications)

    Criteria B (Experiences):

    • A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience at lecturer level in an institution of higher education (full time).
    • At least one full research output unit (based on past six years).
    • Proven track record of research publications in accredited journals.
    • Proven record of supervision/co-supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students.
    • NRF-rating is an advantage.
    • Evidence of external engagement (one activity).
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
    • Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements.
    • Evidence of research leadership, attracting external funding is an advantage.
    • Evidence of international collaboration is an advantage.
    • Experience in the initiation and implementation of post-graduate research programmes/ projects is an advantage.
    • Liaison with industry including consultation work.
    • Evidence of development and management of SLPs is an advantage.
    • Record of external fund attraction is an advantage.

    LECTURER :

    Criteria A (Qualification):

    • Master’s Degrees (MEng/ MTech/ MScEng, NQF 9) in Electrical Engineering (Power)
    • Bachelor (BEng/ BTech/ BSc Eng, NQF 8) in Electrical Engineering (Power)
    • Eligibility for registration with ECSA under professional engineering or technologist category
    • (ECSA registration is compulsory for applicants with foreign qualifications)

    Criteria B (Experience):

    • A minimum of two years of relevant teaching experience (full-time) after obtaining master’s qualification
    • Some evidence of research publication (at least one as a co-author)
    • Must demonstrate achievements and potentials
    • Evidence of external engagement (one activity)
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities
    • Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements is an advantage
    • Evidence of international collaboration is an advantage
    • Liaison with Industry including consultation work is an advantage
    • Evidence of development and management of SLPs is an advantage

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, excellent teaching skills, planning and organising skills, conceptual skills, analytical ability, interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills, computer literacy skills.

    Lecturer – Applied Communication Skills/Bachelor of Communication Studies

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Academic leadership – Develop and review course materials, teach and assess students at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, prepare teaching and learning portfolio as
    • evidence of compliance to standards, and take part in department management tasks delegated by the HOD and report on achievement in PMC.
    • Research – propose and design research concept notes and concept maps for postgraduate research in field of specialisation in the department, undertake post graduate supervision and examination, research and publish accredited research outputs.
    • Develop curriculum in applicable field of specialisation – influence the development, maintenance and control of curriculum in field of specialisation.
    • Industry relationship building and external engagement – Liaise with industry including consultation work, project proposals and collaborative research projects.
    • Community engagement – Develop community engagement project contents and study guides and take part in the implementation, participate in community flagship programme/projects.
    • Administration – Conduct student and academic administration and reporting duties in
    • line with responsibility, serve on departmental and faculty committees, if and when required.
    • Lead and inspire teams to achieve operational excellence, foster collaboration, and drive a high-performance culture.
    • Internal process – Conduct ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line-manager.

    APPLICATION CRITERIA:

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Minimum requirements:

    • A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Communication or related field.
    • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant teaching, industrial or professional experience.
    • Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management.
    • Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities.
    • Knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements.

    Added advantage:

    • Registration with a recognised professional body.
    • Relevant industry or professional practice experience.
    • Additional qualifications in the field of study, higher education and research training are strongly recommended.
