    Lecturer

    Minimum requirements 

    • Master’s Degree (within the discipline of apparel or related areas). Undergraduate studies must include apparel production or apparel technology subjects.
    • Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of apparel, including but not limited to garment construction, production methods, quality management, work-study, operations management, and supply chain management.
    • A minimum of 3 years relevant teaching/ relevant apparel industry experience – e.g., in apparel technology, manufacturing processes, and/or business. (Teaching or training experience in relevant Higher Education, industry, or training institutions).

     Additional Recommendation

    • Demonstrate a solid portfolio of work and traceable references.
    • Prior teaching experience at the Higher Education level will be highly advantageous.
    • Practical manufacturing or retail experience in the apparel sector.
    • Strong team player, high level of initiative, highly motivated, and ability to network.
    • Teaching or training, or mentoring experience in Higher Education or the Commercial sector
    • Strong networking skills, high level of initiative, and highly motivated.
    • A visionary, able to do creative problem solving, team development, and strategic planning.

    Summary of duties 

    • Lecture in apparel product operations and process-related subjects, or where required, as deemed necessary by the Head of Department.
    • Preparation and delivery of lectures and practicals, and assessment of student work.
    • Assist in the circulation and development of appropriate course material.
    • Perform administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department.

    Senior Lecturer & Head of Department

    Minimum requirements

    • PhD within the discipline of textile science/engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant teaching and/or textile industry experience in textile technology, manufacturing processes, or related areas (including teaching or training experience in Higher Education, industry, or training institutions).
    • Candidates should be at the level of Senior Lecturers / Associate Professors or Professors.
    • Strong background in academic leadership and scholarship.

    Additional Recommendation

    • PhD within the discipline of dry processing of textile science/engineering. Undergraduate studies must include textile technology with a focus on dry processing subjects.
    • Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of textile fabric manufacturing, product engineering, including but not limited to, fabric construction, quality, and raw materials (including textile fibres and yarns).
    • A proven record of research publications and successful supervision within the field of textiles and related areas.
    • A broad understanding of current research developments and teaching trends within the discipline.
    • Evidence of ongoing academic development and professional growth.
    • Evidence of involvement in community engagement projects.

    Research Administrator

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree (Preference will be given to honours and master’s candidates) in a relevant field such as administration, finance, or a research-related discipline.
    • Three (3) years of administrative experience, ideally in higher education or a research setting.
    • In-depth understanding of postgraduate policies, research administration, and academic regulations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Familiarity with university systems (e.g., ITS/SAP) is advantageous.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Guide and support postgraduate students and supervisors.
    • Manage applications, admissions, registrations, and graduations for postgraduate programs.
    • Maintain student databases and track research progress.
    • Assist with bursary applications and research grant oversight.
    • Organize seminars, workshops, and research events.
    • Liaise between academic departments, supervisors, and research offices.
    • Ensure compliance with university and national research policies.
    • Prepare documentation for Faculty committees.
    • Oversee project budgets, monitor spending, and produce financial reports.
    • Coordinate logistics for research activities, including travel and meetings.

    Technical Assistant

    Minimum Requirements:

    • National Diploma, BAppSc: Biotechnology or BSc (Microbiology/Biochemistry) or equivalent.

    Additional Recommendations:

    • Strong service ethic.
    • Ability to work independently and have initiative.
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
    • Basic computer literacy.

    Summary of Duties:

     Laboratory Support:

    • Prepare biological samples for experiments.
    • Maintain and clean laboratory equipment and glassware.
    • Assist in setting up and preparing designated laboratories for practicals & projects, as per the requirements of the Technician and/or Academic in charge.
    • Assist students and staff in operating general laboratory equipment.
    • Preparing, monitoring, and discarding of waste material.
    • Perform other general duties, e.g., cleaning laboratories and/or departmental storerooms, etc., as may be required or as directed by a Technician or the Head of Department.
    • Collect/deliver equipment, parcels, and materials, and run miscellaneous errands as required.

    Inventory Management:  

    • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
    • Maintain stock of general laboratory consumables (biohazard boxes, laboratory detergents, disinfectants, etc.).
    • Maintain a stock of and change gas cylinders.

    Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
    • Participate in safety training and drills.

    Administrative Support:

    • Provide general administrative assistance as needed.
    • Perform any other duties within the bounds of the competency level of the post, as may be specified by the Head of Department, Academic in charge or Technician, to achieve departmental objectives.
