    Sourcing Manager

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Interface and collaborate across various functions at Rand Refinery (i.e. Sampling & Evaluation, Finance & Treasury, Procurement & Creditors, SHEQ) in delivering on Sourcing initiatives to fulfil the sourcing needs of the Refinery and Smelter.
    • Conduct and manage customer relations, sales, pricing, contracting, business development, and due diligence/ compliance activities.

    DECISION MAKING

    • The incumbent will operate in the guidelines and delegated authority provided by the Head: Sourcing and Business Development.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK    

    • The incumbent contributes to ensuring that the Sourcing Department achieves its objectives of sustainable profitable sourcing for the Smelter and Refinery.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:       

    • Interact with vendors (transporters) and internal resources (e.g. logistics & vault) in finalising in-bound transport pricing and timing queries.
    • Take part in managing sourcing risks and stay abreast of best practice in this regard.
    • Conduct the required site visits and provide the relevant reports with market and customer insight.
    • Work in cross-functional teams in developing and realising sourcing opportunities for Rand Refinery (e.g. copper slimes, mercury carbons).
    • Negotiate/renegotiate contract and pricing Managing a portfolio of depositing and purchasing customer enquiries / interactions and provide appropriate information and solutions from across the organisation.
    • When required conduct root cause analysis / track, trace the Order to Cash process (e.g. incorrect invoicing, pricing conditions etc.) and solve or escalate as necessary.
    • ducate customers on the legalities of dealing in gold and precious metals (e.g. FIC and Precious Metals Act).
    • Interact directly with customers regarding queries. Ensure that customer queries that require technical, specific production, evaluation feedback is given timeously.
    • Ensure that any feedback given to customers is accurate, and sensitive information is dealt with appropriately.
    • Ensure that management is proactively advised on customer’s contracts that are due for expiry in order to generate or start negotiations with customers (own the expiry diary and notify of expiry 2 months before time).
    • Hold customers accountable in terms of their contractual obligations, while also ensuring Rand Refinery meets its obligations.
    • Smelter and Refinery intake budgeting and forecasing.
    • Cost centre budgeting.
    • Compile the monthly sourcing report.
    • Run each Campaign project (sale of Rand Refinery waste material) from a pricing/ contracts point of view.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed matric qualification.
    • A completed tertiary qualification in Metallurgical Engineering/ Extraction.
    • Preference will be given to the following candidates:
    • Have acquired at least 5 years of working experience within a Marketing, Trading, Sourcing, Evaluation, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Management Consulting environment and / or suitable experience in the precious metals industry.
    • Understand the smelting and refining processes.
    • Have in-depth Logistics, Receiving, Evaluation and Supply-chain knowledge.
    • Understanding of materials handling and sampling & assaying techniques / issues
    • Be familiar with legislative (e.g. FIC) and responsible sourcing requirements.
    • Have an understanding of the source of Refinery and Smelter feedstocks and the drivers that determine their characteristics (e.g., ore and extractive metallurgy).

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Excel / Modelling: build and motivate Excel based technoeconomic models to unlock smelter initiatives / opportunities.
    • Financial acumen: understand detailed accurate calculations, risk assessments on on-boarding of new customers.
    • Customer relationship management:  be able to build trusting and honest customer relations.
    • Advanced computer literacy:  SAP and Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Database construction (Access, Excel Macros).
    • Document and risk management systems (SAP, DMS, Barn-owl, Docfox, SharePoint).
    • Market intelligence (Thompson Reuters, GFMS etc.).
    • Excellent professional communication skills – must be able to engage with senior and middle management of large mining companies.
    • Administrative skills: be able to propose, design, implement and execute business processes.
    • Problem solving skills:  be able to identify and rectify problems quickly.
    • Negotiation skills: coordinate negotiations effectively and be comfortable in dealing with clients & vendors.
    • Contract management: basic understanding of contract law and the commercial structure of contracts.

    Process Leader (Service Yard)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The incumbent must ensure that all procedures governing the operation of the Service Yard section are relevant, effective and adequate; this will aid in ensuring that company equipment is safeguarded against incorrect operating practices.

    • Ability to make decisions and give direction. Ability to work without supervision.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK    

    • Responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Service Yard in its entirety as well as evaluation of data and releasing of customer deposits (both Refinery and Smelter deposits).

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:       

    • Ensure that all scrap material has been decontaminated and the risk of gold losses has been either quantified or eliminated.
    • Develop technical relationships with suppliers to optimise the service yard processes.
    • Ensure that procedures have been reviewed and reminds relevant.
    • Ensure that all procedures have been develop and approved for all the equipment.
    • Ensure that operators have been trained in all the procedures.
    • Perform daily, monthly and bi-annual duties in preparation for stock evaluation and metal balance control.
    • Ensure timeous submission of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
    • Establish and maintain appropriate production, quality and safety control measures.
    • Ensure training and development of subordinates as well as succession planning.
    • Establish, manage and execute strategic and operational plans effectively and consistently.
    • Carry out technical investigations and report writing.
    • Ability to communicate technical data in an understandable manner.
    • Ensure proper planning and execution of duties and tasks in preparation for stocktake.
    • Perform daily, monthly and biannual duties in preparation for stock evaluation and metal balance control.
    • Ensure thorough clean-up of all equipment prior to stocktake.
    • Ensure compliance during audits.
    • Address non-conformances timeously.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed matric qualification.
    • A tertiary qualification in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering.
    • 8 - 10 years of experience within a Metallurgical or Refining environment, whereby at least 2 years was acquired from having served in a middle management position.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Computer skills proficiency – Word, Excel, e-mail and SAP.
    • Ability to communicate technical data in an understandable manner.
    • Carry out technical investigations and report writing.
    • Ability to improve processes and make them more efficient.
    • Ability to identify and solve problems.
    • Self-starter, work without supervision and ability to lead teams.

    • In depth knowledge of chemical/ metallurgical processes, smelting and precious metal sampling and assaying,
    • Interpretation and analysis of assay results. Ability to interpret and explain variances and deviations.
    • Understanding of customer contracts.

    Customer Liaison Officer

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The Customer Liaison Officer must manage all customer complaints and queries for both local and international depositors regarding the status of the evaluation process and the content of metals found in the deposits.

    DECISION MAKING

    • Ability to re-direct activities when required – provided such activities fall within the specified directives as mentioned above.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK    

    • Effectively communicate with customers regarding technical information on their deposits at Rand Refinery and to ensure that the customers remain satisfied at all times.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:       

    • Ensure that all official documentation of the deposits are sent to the correct distribution list after the deposits are released and ensure that the distribution lists are always updated.
    • Be able to identify errors on the official deposits documentation.
    • Managing the SAP limitations and constraints effectively. Ability to send out PMR’s when the usage workflow massages are not distributed.
    • Ability to resolve waybill errors on customer deposits. Effectively follow up on final waybill receipt when necessary.
    • Do a follow up with relevant customers regarding assays and weight discrepancies.
    • Manage all customer complaints and queries both locally and internationally.
    • Ensure timeous communication to customers regarding stocktake periods.
    • Advise regarding the status of the evaluation process for deposits.
    • Manage all customer complaints and queries for both local and international depositors regarding the status of the evaluation process and the content of metals found in the deposits.
    • Interpret and communicate technical data accurately and timeously to the depositing customers.
    • Maintain good relationship with the depositing customers.
    • Ensure that the safety record is maintained at ZERO LTI, environmental standards complied with and SHEQ lifestyle is visible.
    • Report incidents & near misses regularly and timeously.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed matric qualification.
    • A completed National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Metallurgy.
    • At least 3-5 years of experience in similar role, may include customer service or customer relations background.
