    Regional General Manager: Cape Region

    Job Summary 

    A challenging vacancy currently exists for a dynamic, team-oriented, and highly motivated Regional General Manager: Cape. The successful candidate will be closely involved with the implementation and maintenance of sound administration and corporate governance systems, policies, and procedures within the different operational units of the Cape Region.     Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation/Tourism/Business Management, or any other relevant qualification coupled with five years of related management experience.
    • 7 to 10 years experience in senior management
    • Any postgraduate degree in a related discipline or MBA will be an added advantage.
    • Working knowledge of relevant conservation legislation and conservation management
    • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft packages
    • Sound knowledge of statutory governing National Parks incl. NEMA: PAA, MPA, PFMA, etc.

    • To ensure effective planning and management of Tourism operations for the region.
    • To ensure effective conservation management for the region.
    • To ensure effective constituency building with neighbouring communities and other Stakeholders for the region.

    Internship Programme Opportunities: Human Capital Management

    South African National Parks (SANParks) is the leading conservation authority in all national parks, responsible for 3 751 113 hectares of protected land in 20 national parks. It draws its mandate from the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, Act 57 of 2003.

    Applications are hereby invited from graduates who completed their Bachelor’s Degree/ National Diploma (NQF6/NQF7) at a Public Higher Education Institution (HEI) in South Africa and wish to be placed in SANParks for one (1) year with a monthly stipend of R5, 000.00. SANParks is under no obligation to employ the Intern upon completion of the programme.

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate an understanding of potential risks involved in aircraft maintenance operations and remain vigilant in identifying and assessing risks.     Supervisor Grounds Maintenance

    A vacancy currently exists for a Supervisor of Grounds Maintenance at Groenkloof National Park in the Facilities Department. The successful candidate will report to the Maintenance Officer.

    Requirements

    • Matric (grade 12)
    • A minimum of 3 years experience in landscaping and/or garden maintenance,
    • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
    • Code EB (Code 8) driver’s license.
    • Understanding of waste management and recycling principles.
    • Proven OHS experience
    • Good knowledge of the operation of various tools/machinery
    • Safety orientated, good knowledge of safe work procedures and understanding of the needs of plants.

    Responsibilities

    • To lead and supervise the landscape teams responsible for mowing the lawns, irrigation, trimming shrubs, and performing outdoor maintenance tasks.
    • To ensure the proper pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, maintaining a pleasant appearance.
    • Organize, schedule and assign work to staff and inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
    • To conduct an inventory of tools, equipment or materials and ensure sufficient supplies are available, and items are in a good working condition.
    • To identify diseases of pests affecting flora and implement appropriate treatment.
    • To supervise mix or apply fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides.
    • To conduct a weekly grounds inspection and compile a summary report.

    Chief Instrument Maker

    SANParks requires the services of a Gunsmith / Instrument Maker based in the Kruger National Park (KNP) for specialized equipment design, manufacturing and maintenance of specialized equipment The position reports to the Head Ranger: Ranger Services in Kruger National Park. The position is park-based, therefore, the successful candidate will be allocated a house in the Park.

    Requirements

    • Have at least 4 – 6 years’ work experience in Instrument making/Gunsmithing.
    • Knowledge of firearms construction ballistics mechanical technology machine and tool construction practical workshop.
    • Engineering Degree in Instrumentation will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of protective chemical processes.
    • Knowledge of Industry and firearms-related legislation, as well as training and assessment procedures.
    • Knowledge of firearms maintenance, modification, and repair.
    • Developing and loading skills for ammunition (producing specialized ammunition).

    Responsibilities

    • Research, design, manufacture and install specialized equipment for Scientific Services, Conservation Management, Ranger Services and Veterinary Wildlife Services.
    • Maintain, repair, modify and improve existing scientific, surgical and wildlife equipment for Conservation Management, Ranger Services, Air Services and the Wildlife Processing Facility.
    • Use workshop machinery and design their own tools to manufacture required equipment.
    • Service, inspect, clean, repair, fabricate parts, assemble, and disassemble firearms.
    • Keep records related to the Gunsmith Workshop.
    • Support and advise all designated firearms officials and end users.
    • Advise on firearm suitability for purpose in conjunction with the Corporate Firearms Manager.
    • Comply with relevant industry legislation.
    • Manage the Instrument Maker workshop & transfer and develop skills of workshop staff.
