    Communications & Social Media Intern

    Main purpose

    As a Communications and Social Media Intern, you will support our marketing and corporate communications efforts, gaining hands-on experience in social media marketing and internal/external communication strategies.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Create and curate compelling social media content related to the Maskew Miller Learning brand across platforms, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
    • Support internal communication efforts by assisting in the creation and distribution of newsletters, memos, and announcements to increase engagement and brand visibility.
    • Lead the relationships with other internal business divisions to ascertain and deliver their corporate communication/ PR needs, as aligned to the objectives of each division.
    • Monitor and analyse social media metrics to measure the impact of communications.
    • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment to inform crisis response strategies.

    Educational Requirements    

    • Relevant degree (e.g. Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field) or nearing completion of studies.

    Experience Requirements    

    • Prior experience with communications, social media or digital marketing is a plus.

    Publisher – Computer Science, Coding & Robotics

    Main Purpose

    The Publisher for Computer Science, Coding & Robotics portfolio leads and manages the content creation for Computer Science, Coding & Robotics related products or services. This full-time position will operate as part of a project team and will report to the Lead Publisher for the STEM portfolio.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities    

    Contribution to Product strategy

    • Computer Science, Coding & Robotics subject matter expert.
    • Research and understand market needs in collaboration with the research team.
    • Maintain relationships with Curriculum officials and external stakeholders.
    • Generate Coding & Robotics product and service pedagogy framework based on policy documents.
    • Research and analyse curricula, policy documents/gap analysis and evaluation criteria relating to submission and tender requirements.
    • Review and analyse competitor and alternative products/services.
    • Generate product or service concept/vision for all components.

    Financial Management

    • Prepare product budgets for sign-off (forecast costs).
    • Manage product costs within approved budgets.
    • Respond to budget queries and changes.
    • Sign off and approvals of work as per schedule of authority.

    Content Development

    • Develop detailed specific product/service plan.
    • Develop design spec and cover briefs.
    • Develop detailed instructional design/digital brief. 
    • Develop detailed author/SME commissioning brief.
    • Recruit appropriate authors/SMEs. This includes the development and retention of market-leading content developers and subject matter experts (SMEs).
    • Work closely with authors/freelancers to create products or services based on the relevant pedagogy.
    • Commission content/service according to detailed product plan.
    • Manage the development of print and digital content.
    • Provide continuous support during the writing/content development process. 
    • Contribute to development of content for marketing material, including creating the product value proposition.
    • Review quality and conformity and provide feedback until content is approved.

    Project Management

    • Create project schedule (forecast time).
    • Responsible for the overall deadline of projects. This means ensuring that projects are completed by the agreed due date.
    • Remain up to date with all admin duties and foster best practice.

    Production Support

    • Ensure that the vision for the product or service is carried through the entire production process.
    • Support the Managing Editor during production phase by: 
    • addressing content/author queries
    • approving final artwork and photo selection
    • reviewing first draft and artwork pages
    • Signing off and approving master set files.

    Testing/trialing/research

    • Develop prototype/sections/full product for testing/trialing/research purposes.
    • Validate prototypes/sections/full products.
    • Analyse and apply research feedback to improve products and services.

    Business as Usual

    • Backlist maintenance - reprint corrections, respond to customer queries.
    • Constant review of current products for improvement and market relevance.

    Relationship with External stakeholders

    • Develop relationships with relevant Ministry and DBE officials and external stakeholders. 
    • Brief external SMEs, consultants, freelancers as needed.

    Develop good practice.

    • Develop pool of excellent content developers/SMEs capable of responding to the needs as they arise.
    • Develop skills of content developers/SMEs through training.

    Collaboration

    • Collaborate closely with colleagues during all stages of the project within the matrix.  
    • Contribute to development of content for marketing material.

    Follow new trends and developments

    • Stay abreast with new trends and developments in products/services, pedagogy, and market needs.
    • Attending relevant workshops, conferences and other industry events to stay up to date.

    Project Lead responsibilities

    • As required, to perform the role of the project lead.

    Digital

    • Manage the development of digital content.
    • Concrete understanding of Coding & Robotics Learning Design best practice and principles for digital learning.
    • Good understanding of instructional design and user-experience design best practice and principles – when & how to employ specialists.
    • Collaborate with the Design and Digital Development team to develop digital content / products.

    Educational Requirements    

    • Relevant Degree in the subject matter.

    Experience Requirements    

    • Minimum three to five years working knowledge within the Computer Science or Coding & Robotics educational environment. 
    • At least three to five years teaching/publishing experience.

    Skills and Competencies    

    • Sound business and technical acumen, with the ability to navigate a complex and highly matrixed organisation effectively, establishing effective communication lines to multiple stakeholders.  
    • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, remaining pragmatic and results focused.

    Research CO-Ordinator (Cape Town)

    Main purpose

    • As a Research Co-ordinator, you will provide research project support to the Research and Development Manager and team. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities    

    Logistics and Administration Related Research

    • Maintain an efficient administrative system, including keeping school and district information records and contact records.
    • Create filing systems for existing data/documentation.
    • Arrange logistics for research activities, including coordination between stakeholders and service providers.

    Research

    • Assist with development of proposals, project plans and budgets.
    • Assist with conceptualizing and write-up of research design and methodology.
    • Draft research, fieldwork, and project schedules
    • Monitor progress in research projects, including managing timelines and quality assurance of fieldwork.
    • Assist in managing risks and development of contingency plans.

    Educational Requirements    

    • Master’s degree in education or social science. Background in psychology a strong recommendation.

    Experience Requirements    

    • Minimum of 3–5-year research/project management experience in research institutions, universities and/or the NGO/NPO education sector

    Experience in:

    Managing Editor- Cape Town

    Main purpose

    Manages the editorial and production process of a product whilst ensuring a high-quality product is delivered  on time and within budget.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Source, develop and retain a reliable and highly skilled network of freelancers (editors, artists, proofreaders,
    • indexers, typesetters) by following company approved procurement processes.
    • Ensure that Freelancers are identified, recruited and booked for projects ahead of schedule.
    • Ensure that a sufficient pool of qualified freelancers maintained and expanded in keeping with
    • the requirements of the business.
    • Provide training to selected freelancers as and when required.

    Form and maintain internal relationships with other teams and support functions to ensure smooth day to day-to-day running operations.

    • Understand the processes employed by various teams that support the editorial and production process.
    • Adhere to the processes to ensure that all tasks can be completed thoroughly and on time.

    Ensure the editorial integrity of products by following the guidelines set out in the editorial policy and thensound principles of proofreading and editing.

    • Ensure that every stage of the production process is carefully and thoroughly checked with
    • corrective measures implemented to resolve problems.
    • Communicate with Content Developers with the aim of clarifying production-related issues
    • such as artwork, page proofs, amount of content on a digital screen, accuracy of information on
    • digital content (correct answers in digital quizzes, etc)
    • Anticipate problems related to the manuscript, design, artwork or product concept from the first
    • engagement with the project. Proactively communicate such problems with suggested solutions
    • to the appropriate person.
    • Make recommendations for improvements to the product's content, design, artwork or product

    •  Evaluate the freelancer's contribution to the project prepared and discussed with the Editorial

    Lead.

    • Control the flow of work through tracking of work-in-progress.

    Feedback and follow-up on workflow and status of all projects as needed (daily/weekly)

    • Complete the relevant project WIP trackers (print and digital) to provide visibility to the whole team on status.

    Ensure follow-up and completion of all required tasks and proactively communicate any issues or required changes.

    • Follow-up on required tasks performed by internal and external team members.
