    Forest Certification Manager

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Working with business unit leaders, define certification requirements to meet customer expectation and other business needs.
       
    • Manage Sappi Forests’ sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification requirements
       
    • Manage all Sappi Group Schemes’ sustainable forest management certification requirements
       
    • Establish and maintain a strong control environment across all operations for the tracking of inputs and consumption of forest certification credits
       
    • Maintain monthly and annual summaries on timber sales as required for the business and certification bodies
       
    • Develop and implement a training programs across Sappi Forests business units and Growers to instil understanding of 3rd party certification programs
       
    • Facilitate continuous improvement by identifying efficiency improvement opportunities in forest certification and other forest risk management activities
       
    • Facilitate the development, review and implementation of audit checklists and provide advice and support to users to ensure certification requirements are met
       
    • Develop and implement a monitoring timeframe and strategy for Growers and carry out regular internal audits of their forest management activities.
       
    • Facilitate external audits by engaging with the stakeholders and supporting the audit process to ensure certification is achieved
    • Communicate performance by reporting across the organisation to promote understanding of certification standards
    • Engage with Sappi business units and Growers, to ensure good understanding of all the elements of the certification programme and compliance therewith
    • Build excellent relationships with certification bodies and other internal and external stakeholders.
    • Serve as an internal consultant for business regarding certification standards.
    • Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure that the Sappi corporate image is upheld, risks are mitigated and that relationships continuously improve.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Environmental Science related
    • A MSc degree in the relevant field will be advantageous
    • At least 5 years relevant experience in forest management
    • Knowledge of Sappi operations preferred
    • Knowledge of certification processes.
    • Proficiency in isiZulu will be advantageous

    MRP Controller - Rotables (45261)

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Manage and report on the material stocks as required.
    • Replenish/maintain the stocks timeously to ensure that the Mill units have sufficient materials as per the MRP rules and processes.
    • Liaise and maintain customer relationships both internal and external
    • Maintain and ensure that SAP accurately reflects the actual stocks in the plant.
    • Perform stock counts as required.
    • Manage the internal and external customer problems and queries.
    • Provide training on the supply chain to internal and external customers.
    • Perform standby duties when required
    • Manage and ensure the MRP master data content is correct and current.
    • Understand and comply with SHEQ requirements.
    • Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions, and hazards.
    • Ensure sound SHEQ principles are followed within all storage areas

    • Relevant NQF5 tertiary qualification in Engineering or Materials Management
    • 2 - 3 years’ experience in an Engineering Maintenance Environment preferred/would be beneficial

    Softwood Chip Dumper (45281)

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Perform pre-operational checks prior to start-up by physical checks, monitoring closed circuit television (CCTV) and SCADA control panel monitors
    • Test and reset the metal detector at the beginning of every shift and ensure that it is repaired if faulty before starting up to prevent damage to plant machinery and chip contamination
    • Reset metal detector after physically and thoroughly checking and removing ferrous material on conveyor system to prevent equipment damage and chip contamination. 
    • Safely start up and shut down plant machinery
    • Monitor plant during operation by physical plant inspections on the field, through control room windows, CCTV and Scada control panel monitors
    • Control the feeding of chips to prevent blockages and chip spillages.
    • Monitor and remove foreign material such as stones and wood planks on conveyor system using CCTV monitor to prevent blockages, equipment damage and chip contamination
    • Identify abnormal/ emergency plant conditions and take corrective action according to BOP
    • Isolate plant and issue work permits
    • Clear chip blockages on conveyor systems
    • Clean slithers build up on scalper dump chute
    • Take chip samples for BOC truck offloaded
    • Monitor chip stacking operation to ensure compliance to FIFO principle and continuous chip supply to customers using CCTV and SCADA monitors
    • Ensure plant is running at optimum state to ensure delivery trucks turnaround times are adhered to.
    • Refuel designated and ad hoc vehicles with diesel and record details on fuel issue book
    • Take daily diesel tank measurements using a dipstick and record values on fuel issue book
    • Housekeeping at BOC and diesel station plants
    • Communicate with shift superintendent and screening operator with regards to abnormal conditions
    • Communicate with maintenance personnel with regards to maintenance work and production plan
    • Perform BBS observations as per sections’ target
    • Report unsafe conditions and near misses
    • Understand and comply with SHEQ requirements
    • Achieve 5S status in area of responsibility

     The ideal candidate should have:

    • Grade 12 Maths and Physical Science
    • N3 Pulp and Paper would be advantageous
    • 06 months experience in the Woodyard

    Superintendent : Mechanical (Services) (45141)

    The main responsibilities of this job are :

    • Assess equipment, material and labour required to complete large and/or complex maintenance tasks
    • Ensure maintenance activities meet set standards and resolve defined issues while reducing wasted resources
    • Prioritize and assign mechanical related work orders to skilled maintenance staff to ensure that sections are maintained safely whilst meeting guidelines within budget
    • Coordinate the services and activities of  maintenance staff and outside contractors to ensure work is completed in a safe, effective and timely manner and meets Mill’s standards
    • Direct assigned maintenance staff in resolving complex and/or difficult maintenance issues to ensure that Mill sections are maintained in a safe and effective working environment
    • Maintain assigned tools, equipment and vehicle(s) to ensure their availability as needed to meet assigned maintenance objectives
    • Assist in the personnel management of department employees ensuring adequate staffing and productivity of the work force.
    • Assess direct reports and ensure on the job learning takes places through ongoing coaching and mentoring
    • Manage statutory requirements as per OHSACT and Safety policies and procedures
    • Perform stand-by and work overtime as required.
    • Ensure departmental housekeeping and safety regulations are adhered to.
    • Control overtime and manage Time and Attendance of subordinates
    • Manage contractors during shutdowns. ( Safety, workload, discipline)
    • Manage artisan stand-by roster and ensure personnel available.
    • Perform statutory inspections such as tool, harness, workshop equipment and lifting equipment inspections as per schedule

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • NQF level 4 qualification with a recognised trade test certificate
    • 5 years post trade test experience within a heavy industry environment
    • Supervisory and Utilities plant experience will be considered advantageous
    • SAP experience is advantageous

    Fitter (Services) (45121)

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Fit, assemble, grind and shape metal parts and sub-assemblies to maintain production machines and other equipment. Install, test, connect, commission and modify mechanical equipment.
    • Perform plant maintenance and remedial work according to SAP notifications, work orders and planned schedules, including during shuts.
    • Perform preventative maintenance activities, eg collect vibration data, take oil samples.
    • Align pumps to motors and gearboxes.
    • Complete notifications and work orders on the SAP system.
    • Complete fault finding on systems during breakdowns and repair the problem to keep downtime to a minimum.
    • Participate in failure analysis.
    • Complete daily and weekly inspections on equipment according to a detailed checklist.
    • Report all defects and equipment risks to the direct supervisor.
    • Scope and plan work orders as required.
    • Draw spares from Stores using the picking list in SAP.
    • Required to work standby, overtime and cover breakdowns as required.
    • Understand and comply with the safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) requirements of the mill.
    • Uphold aspects of and perform required activities relating to the OHS Act
    • Comply and perform tasks as per the organisations policies, procedures and bestoperating practices.
    • Maintain a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times.
    • Assist production personnel with isolation processes on request.
    • Obtain a valid work permit and ensure compliance to the safe work conditions.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Grade 12 and N2 Engineering while and N3 Engineering would be preferred
    • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter
    • 2 years post apprenticeship experience in a heavy industry environment
    • Maintenance experience within a utlities plant with boilers and turbines would be considered advantageous

    Human Resources Administrator (45243)

     The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Coordinate the administration of benefit funds, for Mill (i.e., retirements/deaths/withdrawals and disabilities).
    • Coordinate administration involving the sign-on/transfer/promotions/termination of permanent and temporary staff/hired labour as per policy and procedures.
    • Coordinate and prepare Mill annual increases by compiling of non-bargaining unit increases distribution HOD’s and consolidation and prepare Mill bonus spreadsheet for finance department, verification of MIS spreadsheet.

    • Coordinate all payroll input scanning to SS payroll for capturing in line with payroll cut-off dates.

    • Coordinate the maintenance of position numbers/organigrams/structures and updates of all control manpower movement through SAP PD, Org management and personnel admin data. Upload of manpower budget SAP PD.

    The main responsibilities of this role are:

    • Achieve stretch cost reduction/containment and value improvement targets to support the business plan, and to ensure effective and standard systems for managing the tendering, negotiation, contracting and Contractor performance activities.
    • Ensure strategic and centre-led commodities for the area of responsibility are procured at optimal cost, time, quality and quantity.
    • Develop & implement category strategies, ensuring supply security while reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

    • Supporting Procurement teams in negotiating and concluding competitive commercial/legal agreements to drive sustainable performance.
    • Achieving optimum commercial outcomes in the context of competing for political and socio-economic imperatives (local procurement, enterprise development, low-cost country sourcing).
    • Leading and coordinating efforts of Procurement/Strategic Sourcing and Operational Teams in ensuring innovation and compliance with respect to minimum safety standards, quality and product specifications.
    • Effectively managing stakeholder relationships involving strategic suppliers and internal parties.
    • Identifying and progressing continuous improvement and innovative approaches to sourcing and contracting, maintaining focus on cost and value whilst disseminating best practices.

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • Minimum 3-year relevant B degree or equivalent (Financial, Procurement, Supply Chain or Marketing).
    • Postgraduate business/forestry qualification will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 - 8 years of experience within a similar environment.
    • Strong Leadership, Negotiation, Project Management & Supplier Management skills are required.
    • The incumbent will be required to travel and work flexible hours with the possibility of shifts as and when required.
