    IT Support Technician I

    Main Objectives

    • The purpose of this job is to respond to users’ needs for technical support.

    The incumbent will be required to:

    • Provide professional, efficient and accurate responses to enable the staff of the university with their IT needs.

    The Requirements:

    • Grade 12 with approximately 2 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
    • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting and computer problem solving skills.
    • Well rounded expertise and practical knowledge of operating systems, networking and office software.
    • Worked in a team environment
    • Six months experience in an IT desktop support environment

    Fundraiser: International

    Purpose:

    • The Fundraiser:  International will lead the University’s international fundraising efforts.
    • S/he will develop a strong funding pipeline through research, proposal writing and strategic content development to mobilise resources for the University’s fundraising projects.
    •  S/he will lead the proposal development and submission process throughout the value chain, sourcing and professionally packaging content and inputs internally to develop targeted compelling copy in different formats.

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, communication, journalism, international relations, or related field is required plus approximately 6 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a business or specialist writing role.
    • Knowledge of donor trends, rules and regulations of major donors, international major players, and consortiums.
    • Proven experience developing proposals.
    • Excellent ability to communicate, narrating a compelling story of the brand and generate content to help shape positive donor perception of Rhodes University.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills, with an excellent ability to conduct face-to-face meetings or virtual calls and present to large or small audiences.
    • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, able to cultivate relationships at all levels.
    • Ability and willingness to travel overseas, and work evenings and weekends when required to meet application deadlines.
    • Working with teams across different cultures and time zones would be an added advantage.

    Senior Lecturer in the Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy

    Main Objectives:

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.
    • Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level, and make some contribution to their profession.

    The requirements

    • PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field. Candidates with MSc (Pharm) degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or MPharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related field, with progress being made towards a PhD will be considered.
    • As a guide, progress implies intended submission within the next 12 months.

    PLUS

    Experience:

    • Usually 7 to 10 years of teaching experience OR 7 to 10 years of professional experience in a health or medicines-related field.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a pharmacist.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level required.
    • Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry.
    • Experience in Industrial Pharmacy would be an advantage.
    • Good research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
    • Emerging national profile in discipline.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal)

    Admin Assistant: ILAM

    Main Objectives

    • To provide financial administrative, secretarial and front-line service for the Institute.

    The requirements

    • Grade 12 with preferably with accounting as a subject, plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
    • Previous experience working with budgets where the reconciliations of accounts was essential.
    • Previous administrative experience within a computerized administration environment with a working knowledge and understanding of word-processing, Excel, Microsoft, the internet and emails.
    • Previous experience developing effective administrative systems and processes within an electronic administrative environment.

    Senior Instrumentation Scientist in the Faculty of Pharmacy

    Main Objectives

    To support the research and teaching of the Faculty of Pharmacy through the management, maintenance and use of complex analytical instruments or instrument clusters including related auxiliary equipment.

     A secondary but related purpose is also to further research in the Faculty through the teaching, training and supervision of post-graduate students and other instrument users, and through own research.

    The Instrument Scientist manages the teaching and research equipment in all laboratories in the Faculty.

    During term time, the Instrument Scientist may support teaching sessions in laboratories.

    The role holder will be expected to work closely with the technicians to contribute to maintaining the relevant work areas used for practical teaching, specifically when it comes to storage of instruments and equipment.

    The requirements

    • PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, Analytical/Physical Chemistry, or a closely related science field.
    • 7 – 10 years of appropriate experience.
    • In-depth understanding of analytical and other pharmaceutical sciences.   
    • In-depth understanding of instrument calibration and setup for analysis and operation.
    • In-depth experience in solving complicated analytical problems.
    • Understanding of current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) and Laboratory practice.
    • Extensive experience in the maintenance and use of analytical and other equipment.
    • Extensive utilization of analytical equipment in research.
    • Track record of providing good quality technical infrastructure (data production and data communication) for instrument users.
    • Previous experience working in a university research laboratory, the biotechnology/pharmaceutical, chemical, food or other industries where a number of equipment and analytical instruments are used.
    • Experience with working in cGMP settings.
