    Coordinator: Research Management Support and Research Admin (4-Year Contract)

    Main Objectives

    • Provide effective and efficient laboratory, training, administration and reporting for the BioBRU research group and for the Chair in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures.  
    • Procure, place orders, and monitor the receipt of laboratory goods; oversee the PMP programme for laboratory equipment; and ensure researchers adhere to good laboratory practices and biosafety guidelines.
    • Provide efficient and effective support to a large research group, including multiple researchers, postdocs and postgraduate students. Support training in core laboratory techniques and contribute to data collection to support outputs.

    The Requirements

    • A master’s degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology or a related subject, plus approximately one year’s experience, is preferred; an Honours degree for an exceptional candidate in one of these subjects will be acceptable if accompanied by approximately 2 years’ relevant experience.
    • For candidates at either level, they should demonstrate the following experience: -
    • Previous experience in independent laboratory-based research as a postgraduate researcher in a molecular, microbiology or cell biology laboratory.
    • Previous experience working in or managing a laboratory environment, including supporting the laboratory systems, leadership of a research laboratory environment and maintaining lab equipment.  
    • Experience in laboratory-based molecular research, including training postgraduate students and contributing to a research programme.
    • Working knowledge of financial management and accounting principles.  
    • Previous experience working within a computerised environment and having worked with Excel at an advanced level.  
    • Previous experience in working with word-processing, e-mail and the internet.
    • Previous experience in setting up and maintaining filing and administrative systems.

    Senior Accounts Clerk: Cashbook and Treasury

    Main Objectives

    • To provide effective & efficient accounting / administration and control measures in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures. The accounting / administration and control measures relates to the identification, correct allocation, processing and reconciling of Bank / Cash Book transactions, cell phone and Foreign Exchange administration.  Further to ensure that a high standard of communication and service is maintained at all times.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12, preferably with accounting, plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Previous experience in a pressurized accounting / administrative environment processing large volumes of daily financial transactions within strict deadlines
    • Experience processing high volumes of bank and cashbook electronic transactions and payment platforms, including exposure to daily transaction volumes in excess of 500–1,000 transactions per month (ensuring the accurate processing, allocation, and reconciliation of large transaction volumes).
    • Experience reconciling high volumes of bank and cashbook transactions across multiple bank accounts (Includes bank statement uploads, transaction allocations, suspense clearing, and monthly reconciliations).
    • Strong computer literacy with intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
    • Proficiency in financial systems/ERP systems would be an advantage
    • Previous exposure to online banking & exposure to electronic banking controls, payment processing, and banking administration will be an advantage
    • A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce would be advantageous.

    Director: Advancement and Communications (Grade 19)

    • The Director of Advancement and Communications provides strategic leadership and direction for the University's advancement initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for conceptualising, driving, and implementing comprehensive advancement strategies that support the University’s mission, vision, and long-term financial sustainability objectives.
    • An important aspect of this role is to cultivate, build, and sustain strong and meaningful relationships with donors, partners, alumni, and a broad range of stakeholders. Through these engagements, the Director is expected to strengthen philanthropic support, expand strategic partnerships, and enhance alumni engagement, thereby contributing significantly to the University’s financial sustainability. A key performance area for the role is expanding the University’s unencumbered funding base, ensuring the availability of flexible resources to allocate to institutional strategic priorities.
    • The Director: Advancement & Communications also provides oversight and leadership across media relations, fundraising operations, and the stewardship of the University’s brand and marketing identity. This includes protecting and enhancing the University’s reputation and positioning the institution effectively within the public domain.

    Job Requirements

    A relevant B. Degree (NQF level 7, a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage) plus approximately 7 years’ relevant experience, which includes: -

    • Demonstrable success in fundraising or in any position where the achievement of revenue targets was seen as core to the success of the position
    • Demonstrable success in running projects aimed at achieving support for philanthropic programmes
    • Previous experience and sound evidence of the ability to influence and confidently advise diverse stakeholder groups
    • At least 4 years experience leading a division/team

    Readvertising: Professor/Associate Professor In The Department Of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and community engagement, recognizing differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level and contribute to their profession.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.

    The Requirements

    Associate Professor

    • At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture, or a related field with a strong focus on Aquaculture.
    • Considerable teaching experience in Aquaculture at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Experience in teaching topics related to Aquaculture, for example, sustainable aquaculture, ecosystems-based aquaculture, aquaculture systems, fish health and nutrition.
    • Research supervision of Master's and PhD degrees to completion.
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
    • Track record of research publications and evidence of attracting funding.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles.

    Professor

    • At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture, or a related field with a strong focus on Aquaculture.
    • Extensive teaching experience in Aquaculture at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
