    Meat Buyer (36968)

    Job Description

    • Our client, a highly successful company in the export industry is seeking an experienced  Meat Buyer to join their Durban based team.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in sourcing meat products - including pork, beef, chicken, lamb and fish for the export market
    • The Meat Buyer will oversee the procurement of all meat products, both locally and internationally for export, ensuring compliance with South African and International regulations.   Responsibilities include supervising the loading and inspection of local containers and serving as the primary liaison between the company, export authorities and meat suppliers worldwide

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop the purchasing of both fresh and frozen meat for exportation
    • Providing support to the Senior Meat buyer
    • Building strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers
    • Negotiating market support from suppliers
    • Manage and negotiate costs though the value chain from livestock to the cuts that are required from our clients for their markets
    • Monitor the execution of orders with suppliers and the Export Coordinators ensuring that all protocols are adhered to
    • Inspection and loading, required to be physically present
    • Supplier liaison, negotiation, market report feedback to suppliers
    • Work with the PPECB inspectors and the veterinary department to get the correct documentation for shipments
    • Negotiate pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
    • Source new suppliers where required and develop relationships with existing clients.
    • Problem solving and Claim resolution.
    • Settle claims with suppliers when they arise.
    • Keep track of all meat orders for export
    • Place all orders with the various meat suppliers.
    • Ensure that the correct processes are always being adhered to 

    Minimum Requirements:

     Education and Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar capacity with experience in purchasing
    • Valid Driver's license with own reliable transport
    • Suitable candidate must have exceptionally good meat knowledge and know the grades and cuts of pork, beef, chicken, lamb and fish
    • Strong and current relationships with meat suppliers

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Good understanding / experience of the meat export process  
    • Understanding and / or experience of  import regulations for meat in South Africa would be an added advantage

    • The South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for an Export Administration Manager based in Maydon Wharf KwaZulu-Natal.
    • This role will be based in the Sugar Markets and Logistics Division.
    • The marketing, sales and logistics related to South Africa's bulk raw sugar is performed by the Sugar Markets and Logistics Division.
    • The division focuses on achieving maximum net proceeds within an acceptable level of risk.
    • The raw sugar is sold to refineries in South Africa for export, to the near and far East, Middle East and the United States, either directly or through international trade houses.
    • Price risk is managed by hedging the value of raw sugar exports on the InterContinental Exchange ICE US Futures No 11.
    • Bulk raw sugar is exported through the South African Sugar Association's (SASA) Sugar Terminal in Durban and the STAM Terminal in Maputo, in which SASA is a shareholder.
    • We are seeking to appoint an Export Administration Manager, reporting to the Export and Logistics Executive, who will provide a specialist administrative support role to the export programme.
    • The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing all aspects of the raw sugar export administration function as it pertains to making information available, executing approved actions, measures relating to planning, pricing and trading and freighting functions. A key role will be to implement effective strategies to enhance SASA's reputation with customers and service suppliers and, adding value to the division and SASA by achieving increase in revenue from export sugar, managing risks and reducing costs. 

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • The department is positioned to positively contribute to the accomplishment of the strategies associated with the entire export availability of SASA
    • Acceptable standards of productivity and performance is maintained and interventions to discipline or, improve or capacitate employees are implemented

    • A 3-year tertiary commercial qualification with management accounting as a major
    • Ideally this qualification should be supported by 5 years' experience in the field of international logistics/freight handling
    • Experience in treasury and export trading would be an added advantage
