    Job description

    Please note the programme is available on a twelve 12 months fixed term contract

    An annual total cost to company package of R170 038

    Minimum Requirements

    • Applicants must have completed Honours in Economics degree.
    • Masters degree (or substantial progress towards one) in Economics is preferable
    • Be a South African citizen.

    A consistent academic performer with an average of 60% pass rate.

    Should not have worked as a permanent employee previously.

    • Good analytical, research and investigative skills.
    • Well-developed writing skills
    • Interpersonal skills as well as computer literacy are prerequisites.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skill

    Legal Counsel ( Debt Collection ) Legal Services Division (Grade 7)

    Job description

    Total cost to company package R 689,569.82 per annum (negotiable commensurate with experience)

    Two (2) year fixed term contract, renewable

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent.
    • Admission as an attorney or advocate is strongly recommended.
    • Minimum 3 years post admission experience including litigation experience, preferably in civil and commercial law; competition law experience is an advantage .
    • An aptitude for research, analysis and drafting.
    • Case management, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and negotiation skills as well as computer literacy.

    Key Responsibilities

    The appointed incumbent will be responsible for overall debt collection of the Competition Commission including, inter alia , the following:

    • Drafting and issuing writs of execution.
    • Liaising with sheriffs with regards to service of the writs.
    • Attending to the payment of sheriffs’ invoices.
    • Liaising with Finance regarding payments received and outstanding payment and compiling monthly reports for discussion at EXCO.
    • Monitoring payment by defaulters.
    • Updating the defaulters’ list in conjunction with Finance.
    • Negotiate payment arrangements with defaulters and draft amended settlement agreements and presenting them at the Competition Tribunal.
    • Trace delinquent defaulters to obtain new contact details and addresses.
    • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Legal Counsel.
