QUALIFICATIONS

• LLB degree or equivalent degree in Law, relevant LLM will be advantageous
• B.com degree paired together with a law degree is preferable;
• Knowledge of foreign languages will be considered an advantage.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Minimum 7 years proven experience as a legal advisor or attorney from a commercial environment ; experience in defence and security or other regulatory environment would be beneficial.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial law, procedures and law of contract.
• Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation, including but not limited to the influence of foreign legislation and transnational law
• Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies in accordance with international accepted standards and norms

KEY DUTIES

• Act as point of contact for all South Africa related legal and compliance matters.
• Give accurate and timely advice in a variety of legal topics (contractual matters, notably with respect to public supply and service contracts in the fields of defence and security, regulatory and IT matters applicable to South Africa classified contracts and the criteria for maintaining security clearances, labour law, corporate law, partnerships, corporate finance, BEE matters etc.)
• Draft, comment and negotiate legal documents to ensure the Group’s full legal rights.
• Contribute to all contracting processes with South African or other national governmental authorities, suppliers and contractors and support contract negotiations “from start to finish” in day-to-day business operations.
• Collaborate with the Group’s leadership, its business functions and product lines to enhance informed decision making and to adequately manage, monitor and mitigate legal risks for the development and implementation of the Group’s operational strategy in the Republic of South Africa
• Form a cornerstone in the Group’s compliance team with the mission to ensure sustainable business operations for the Group and more specific support the implementation, application and monitoring of compliance management system in the South African enterprises
• Facilitate the implementation of Group’s governance policies, develop and perform compliance trainings, regularly monitor and report compliance topics to the managing directors and to Group’s Legal & Compliance Department and initiate audits and corrective actions;
• Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
• Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders

• Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
