BI Data Analyst (Senior) at Discovery Limited

Key Purpose

• ​​The Senior BI Data Analyst is responsible for analysing data, developing BI solutions, and delivering insights that support business decision-making. The role requires strong SQL and coding skills, experience with SQL Server and Azure data platforms, and the ability to transform complex data into actionable information. The role is also expected to apply statistical and data science techniques to uncover trends, predict outcomes, and drive data-driven decision-making.​

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to:

• ​​Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
• ​Analyse large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• ​Design and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards.
• ​Support Azure-based data and analytics solutions.
• ​Apply statistical analysis and predictive modelling techniques to business problems.
• ​Ensure data accuracy, quality, and governance standards.
• ​Gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• ​Mentor junior team members and promote best practices

Knowledge and Skills:

• ​​Advanced SQL Server and T-SQL development.
• ​Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Fabric, and Databricks.
• ​Strong Power BI development skills.
• ​Data modelling, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing exposure.
• ​Experience with Python, R, or similar analytical programming languages.
• ​Knowledge of statistical modelling, forecasting, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
• ​Strong coding, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation skill​
• ​Insurance experience is advantageous 

Education and Experience

Education:

• Matric (Essential)
• ​​​​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
• ​Relevant Microsoft Azure, SQL, Power BI, Data Science, or AI certifications are advantageous.​​

Minimum Experience:             

• 3 Years experience in any of the fields specified under essential qualification.
