Chief Subeditor, Content at Ten Lifestyle Group

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Chief Subeditor to join our fast-growing content team in Cape Town or London. The successful candidate will lead teams of sub-editors across the globe ensuring all English copy is compelling, accurate and grammatically correct.
You will be expected to uphold the house style, lead on developing it for the future and ensure it is communicated and understood throughout the business.
Key to this role is the development and implementation of Ten’s tone of voice and the way we tell the story of Ten, externally and internally.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the work of sub editors, setting the highest of editorial standards for them to follow
• Ensure all facts are checked and that grammar, punctuation and spelling are correct
• Be the curator of the Ten house style, making sure it is strictly adhered to.
• Oversee developing and implementing Ten’s tone of voice and the story of Ten
• Ensure that copy is adapted as appropriate to individual clients needs
• Write sparkling heads, sells and subject lines
• Manage a busy team, working at high-velocity, creating digital copy for websites, emails and digital booklets
• Chase commissioning editors, writers and proposition owners to ensure that content is delivered to schedule
• Book freelance subs as necessary, while staying within budget.
• Lead on a fast-track programme to onboard new subeditors and writers
• Manage a programme to review and update existing copy

Requirements

• Strong experience as a chief subeditor on a website, magazine or newspaper publishing high volumes at high velocity
• Experience of digital publishing/editorial
• Demonstrable ability in independent writing and editing
• Strong people and performance management skills with a proven track record
• Strong administration skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• The ability to work with InDesign will be an advantage
• Confident playing a key role within a major company
