Director: Software Development at Clickatell

Purpose

We are looking for a Director of Software Development to join our team where you will be required to utilise your knowledge and extensive experience to oversee the workflow and the workforce involved in the software development process. The role entails two or more Software Development Managers reporting to you.

Responsibilities of the Role

• This is a senior position and you are expected to manage one or more teams and inspire others to achieve goals through innovation, quality and excellence.
• Maintain highly motivated and engaged engineers, set career growth paths, conduct goal settings and regular performance reviews with a critical eye to both success and areas for improvement.
• Resource management skills and ability to handle complex / sensitive issues, and identify strengths and weaknesses of team members and suitably make changes if required.
• Stakeholder management, specifically with Clickatell’s Product division and PMO office to ensure full alignment and common understanding of expectations and timelines.
• Outsource vendor management ensuring a high quality of delivery within budget.
• Reviewing current software designs, alignment with expected processes and standards.
• Analysis of respective software development metrics with identified changes required for improvements.
• Strategically ensure we are prepared to scale the software development processes, including resourcing sources, and outsourcing as considerations.

Requirements of the Role

• Experience and qualification
• Bachelor's degree or above
• 5-10 years experience as a software development manager, or director
• Excellent working knowledge and experience of both the Agile and Waterfall methodologies
• Team management experience
• Leadership:
• Resource management skills and ability to handle complex / sensitive issues, and identify strengths and weaknesses of team members and suitably make changes if required
• Encourage team interaction, boost employee motivation and appreciate team contribution.
• Collaborative approach to working cross department, cross geography and with matrixed teams to deliver multiple projects concurrently
• A champion who promotes policies and standards as required across the department aligned to software development standard, ways of workings, PMO processes and product requirements.
• Management
• Excellent communication skills are important, since candidates will be expected to operate across multiple functional areas (engineering, operations, sales, products, pmo and marketing) including external partners, customers and team members.
• Excellent grasp of and commitment to the principles of the Agile and Waterfall methodologies, including formal project management, and customer/partner management – we practice more a hybrid approach.
• Ability to manage change and effectively pass on the information to concerned teams and stakeholders for smooth execution.
• Technical:
• Great technical background and proven experience in the technologies we use such as containerisation, service orientated architecture, AWS (Services, Storage).
• Proven proficiency in handling complex projects across multiple platforms and intricate dependencies.
• Comfortable and efficient at utilising tools such as Jira, Temp, PowerBI and others to analyse team performance, identify areas for improvement and make the required changes to improve delivery cadence.
