    Executive Head: New Business Development (Mergers & Acquisitions)

    Role purpose:

    To review and evaluate new business opportunities across the Vodacom Group which will include financial analysis, commercial structuring of deals, negotiation of legal agreements and support to the business with the execution of the transaction. It will further include the development and maintaining of strategic partner relationships.
    In addition provide investment analysis & business modelling support to the Vodacom Group Mergers & Acquisition function.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    Business Analysis

    • Consider, review and recommend for evaluation, selected new business opportunities based on standardised investment criteria and business KPI’s.
    • Co-ordinate the collection of information, forecasts and analysis of market dynamics to formulate business evaluations of opportunities.
    • Detailed business case modelling for proposed ventures.
    • Challenge the financial & commercial information provided to ensure its rigour, consistency & integrity.
    • Work with internal & external advisors to develop the optimal deal structure.
    • Lead the due diligence process for new business ventures.
    • Develop and standardise high quality investment decks for presentation to EXCO and Boards.
    • Post implementation reviews on executed projects.
    • Develop and maintain a standardised approach to business analytics which will include business case standardisation & automation.
    • Develop and automate a business intelligence process to ensure availability of strategic information for decision support.


    Financial Governance

    • Alignment of new business opportunities with existing Budgets and Long Range Plans within the Group ensuring that projects are executed within available resources.
    • Group financial effect modelling assessing deal implications on the operating company as well as the overall Group.
    • Alignment with finance on the accounting and tax structuring of deals.
    • Development of business support teams in the Vodacom markets.
    • Structure and monitor the execution of the business ventures in accordance with terms and timelines.

     

    Commercial 

    • Lead the negotiating and structuring of new business partnerships.
    • Negotiate and structure commercial agreements for new and existing business ventures.
    • Ensure best practise sharing across the Group on new business ventures.
    • Own and expand strategic partnerships / relationships across the Group.
    • Support the business with the execution of new business ventures.

     

    General

    • End to end support of Governance processes – Internal and External.
    • Regulatory and Competition commission approvals.
    • Alignment with Group Strategy on the execution of the company vision.

     

    Leadership

    • Management & supervision of the in-market teams delivery.
    • Manage relationships with all stakeholders across the business.
    • Own and present opportunities to EXCO and Boards.
       

    The ideal candidate for this role will have:

    Matric ( Essential).

    • CA (SA) or equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a finance environment, financial modelling and business support role.
    • Experience in the telecommunications industry with a basic understanding of the mobile and fixed networks preferred.
    • Engagement with senior leadership & business leads.
    • Strong financial and complex business modelling background (Advanced Excel and Powerpoint).
    • Sound understanding of the Telecoms business and the workings of the network (Fixed and mobile infrastructure).
    • Experience in the structuring of commercial deals, pricing, costing and negotiation of commercial agreements.
    • Sound understanding of legal principles and contract negotiations.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills (presentations, report writing, etc.).
    • Research ability (‘questioning mind’).
    • Project management.
    • Team player.
