    Facilitator I (P8) (Division for Teaching Excellence: Centre for Academic Planning & Quality Promotion)

    Job Description:

    The primary focus of this position is to work closely with academic staff in faculties in the development of new academic programmes. The incumbent will be required to provide both curriculum advice and advice on meeting the internal and external regulatory requirements to offer new programmes. The latter will be performed under guidance.

    Responsibilities:

    Provide assistance to the Coordinator: Academic Planning and Quality Promotion with regards to:

    • Online applications to the CHE;
    • Correspondence with DHET/SAQA;
    • Progress reports to faculties;
    • Assistance with regards to deferrals, withdrawals and conditions set by the CHE;
    • Internal and external tracking of programmes; 
    • Updating and revision of programme manuals;
    • Guidance and assistance to faculties during  the development process of new programmes;
    • Assistance with the activities of the Programme Working Group; 
    • Support to programme developers in the process of curriculum design;
    • Participation in programme review processes as needed;
    • Collaboration with Central Academic Administration and other staff on programme-related matters;
    • Administer and record correspondence with external bodies such as SAQA, DHET and CHE.

    Participate in engagements with higher education institutions as required, on:

    • Formal programme and CEP matters;
    • Policy related matters;
    • Other aspects of shared value;
    • Internal and external programme and curriculum-related workshops, conferences etc.

    Minimum requirements​​​​​​​

    • An honours/postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
    • A minimum of 2-3 years' experience in working in Higher Education.
    • Knowledge of working with regulatory bodies’ requirements (i.e DHET, SAQA, CHE).
    • A working knowledge of the internal and external environments of higher education, with specific reference to the broad activites of quality assurance and the processes undertaken within universities to support academic programme development towards final approval.  Knowledge of the DHET regulations as they pertain to programmes; the accreditation framework for programmes (CHE) and the requirements for registration of qualifications on the NQF (SAQA).

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Advanced experience in the use of the Microsoft Office package especially Word, Excel and Power Point.
    • Presentation skills
    • The ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently
    • The ability to learn new processes and applications
    • Adherence to deadlines
    • Attention to detail

    Recommendations:

    • A Master’s degree
    • 5 years’ experience in higher education
    • Teaching experience would be an advantage
