    Foreman: Mechanical

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • The Smelter Mechanical Foreman is responsible for legal compliance, maintenance of all mechanical infrastructure within the Smelter Business Unit.
    • The role holder will form an integral part in designing and managing the implementation of planned maintenance programmes for a specific business unit, in line with optimising Plant OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
    • The role holder will be responsible for the execution of all maintenance interventions in line with best practices. He/she will be accountable for all mechanical maintenance to ensure maximum plant availability. He/she will be required to work rotational standby with other foremen, which will cover the Smelter business unit.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    PRODUCTION TARGETS AND DELIVERABLES

    • Manage resources for optimal performance
    • Management of maintenance work order process and ensuring that weekly and monthly KPIs are met. Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.

    PEOPLE MANAGEMENT 

    Selfmanagement by:

    •               Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
    •               Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.

    Managing others by:

    •               Conducting 3 monthly performance reviews of subordinates
    •               Compiling PDP for subordinates.
    •               Ensuring that subordinates attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
    •               Ensuring discipline is maintained as per company policies.

     OPERATIONAL EFFICENCIES      

    • Maintain earthing and bonding throughout the Smelter Business Unit Smelter.
    • Statutory compliance.
    • Reduce E&I maintenance costs.
    • Improve plant availability.
    • Work in conjunction with the Reliability Management team in setting up and reviewing of maintenance plans for all mechanical infrastructure.
    • Take accountability for the execution of mechanical infrastructure in line with set maintenance plans.
    • Maintain and analyse the Smelter energy requirement and seek areas of improvement, in conjunction with Production teams, where consumption can be reduced.
    • Work in conjunction with the Utilities Manager in preparing the energy budget
    • Participate in Risk Assessments based on external and internal influences.
    • Participate in incident investigations
    • Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required
    • Execute electrical and instrumentation preventative maintenance systems through the management of Maintenance Performance KPI’s.

    • Implement, drive and monitor Zero Harm, practices, systems and processes, in areas of Safety, health and environment.
    • Demonstrate felt safety leadership, amongst direct and indirect reports,
    • Monitor and share Companywide similarities/learning opportunities.

    SHEQ

    • Comply with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts proactively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
    • Manage subordinates and contractors’ health and safety and ensure no disabling injuries occur.
    • Participate in formal SHEQ Audits.
    • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

     QUALITY

    Requirements
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

    • The minimum qualification required is a completed N3 or equivalent with a recognised Trade test certificate in Mechanical Engineering being Fitter or Millwright.
    • A preference will be given to a candidate who has completed a National Diploma or higher in Mechanical Engineering.

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    • Preference will be given to a candidate with up to 710 years’ experience in the Mechanical field.
    • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role is essential.
    • Knowledge of MS office package is essential.
    • Knowledge of SAP system and/ or other CMMS is essential.
    • A good understanding of the processes in relating to Asset Care / Maintenance of the plant equipment performance and administration.
    • Indepth knowledge of the permit to work system.
    • Ability to setup, understand and work to a specified budget.
    • Ability to perform incident and accident investigations.
    • Ability to schedule and conduct plant maintenance.
    • Compile maintenance plans for new and existing equipment as may be required.
    • Manage technical information (manuals, drawings, etc.) where required.
    • Ensure completion of statutory maintenance timeously
    • Knowledge and application of company procedures as applicable.
    • Determine SHEQ incidents for further analysis and action.
