WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE?

This role is responsible for leading the strategic development and implementation process. The primary stakeholder group is CEO, EXCO and the Board. The role is required to be able to credibly influence across the Santam Group, and to represent Santam at senior external engagements with strategy and insurance experts. ESG/Sustainability and Investor Relations functions are integrated in this strategy.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THIS ROLE?

• The role is responsible for leading the Strategy and Investor Relations unit that provides the Board, CEO and EXCO with reliable and credible strategic market intelligence and monitoring.
• To design, inform and facilitate the Santam Strategy process at EXCO and Board level including driving specific strategic business opportunities and special projects.
• To ensure alignment with strategy through networking with and influencing key forums in Santam and the broader Sanlam Group.
• To credibly influence across the Santam Group, and to represent Santam at senior external engagements with strategy and insurance experts.
• To ensure the day to day running and managing of the Strategy, Sustainability and Investor Relations unit.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE?

• Ability to build Santam strategy intelligence framework and manage resources to gather, analyse and report on data gathered. Implementation of the Future-Fit Group dashboard.
• Ability to build a competitor and global benchmarking framework.
• Ability to use strategy intelligence to inform and guide the Santam senior leadership (EXCO & Senior Management) on key strategy issues and choices.
• Strength in formulating strategy intelligence implications for Santam and develop an innovative inquiry process to facilitate the interrogation and interpretation of SI.
• Ability to effectively plan, engage and process strategy development for implementation by EXCO.
• Utilise strategy intelligence to inform and guide the Santam senior leadership (EXCO & Senior Management) on key strategy issues and choices Work with the CEO, the Exco and Senior Leaders to consolidate the final synthesis of the Santam Strategy direction
• Execution on for investor relations related issues; this includes strategic development and execution, day to day operations of engagement with investors, responding to investor questions, manage the execution of the investor conferences and present results.
• Ability to provide strategic insights on market activity and guidance on national investor relations affairs which directly influences the organisation to the CFO and EXCO
• Ability to monitor and alert management of threats and opportunities from local and international trends in the legislative, political, social, environmental, industrial perspective that impact on the investor relations strategy
• Accepting accountability for the delivery of strategic and governance reports e.g., Quarterly Board reporting, Integrated report etc.
• Manage and lead the Strategy, Sustainability and Investor Relations team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• CA(SA) or equivalent qualification plus a business specific qualification
• Masters degree would be an advantage
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in addition to the training/accreditation period required to complete the above-mentioned qualification, at senior leadership / executive level in a large organisation, preferably a multi-national organisation.
