    ICT Solutions Architect

    About The Job

    The CSIR has a vacancy for an ICT Solutions Architect in the e-Government Impact Area within the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The incumbent will be responsible to design appropriate ICT solutions architectures based on client requirements; and leading the development and implementation of such solutions. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Engage stakeholders and clients with a view towards translating their needs, business processes into appropriate ICT solutions and systems architectures;

    • Manage the overall concept and vision of the solution;

    • Conduct requirements analysis of the solution, as well as the realisation of the vision through research and software/system development;

    • Provide technical leadership to teams of engineers and software developers, throughout the research and development process;

    • Organise the development effort of a system or solution;

    • Develop high-level system or conceptual architecture;

    • Execute technology decisions in order to deliver the solution to the clients;

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • An Honours degree in informatics, computer science information technology or computer/ electronic engineering with at least ten years’ experience in software development and engineering, particularly in large, complex projects using modern web technologies (HTML5, Python, JavaScript, Angular/React/Backbone, node.js, Enterprise Java and/or Python);

    • Experience leading development using test-driven approaches and agile methods (e.g. SCRUM, SAFe)) is required;

    • Experience with the following would be advantageous:

      • Requirements and systems analysis;

      • Conceptual modelling;

      • Systems architecture and high-level design;

      • DevOps;

      • Test automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery;

      • Docker;

      • Kubernetes;

      • Other programming languages;

      • Enterprise Service Bus, Service-oriented architecture, Microservice architectures, Enterprise Messaging;

      • Data management and analysis, relational databases, SQL and related technologies, NoSQL databases;

      • Enterprise Service Bus, Service-oriented architecture, Enterprise Messaging;

      • Distributed version control and source code management (e.g. git);

      • Open source software systems and licences;

      • Product/service conceptualisation and manufacture; and

      • Planning for product support and maintenance.

    • Must have deep knowledge of the following:

      • Software engineering and development life cycle;

      • Solutions architecture and conceptualisation;

      • Systems architecture and integration;

      • Product development life cycle;

    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);

    • Technical and report writing skills;

    • Analytical and problem-solving skills;

    • Strong ability to think abstractly and conceptually and to see the big picture; and

    • Ability to think strategically.
