Station Commander at Nelson Mandela Bay Metro

Qualifications and experience required:

• Must have come through the firefighter ranks and achieved up to platoon commander qualification plus a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Diploma in Fire Technology.
• Computer literacy: MS Office applications.
• Seven years operational experience, of which three years must be at supervisory level (platoon commander).

Key attributes and competencies:

• Firefighting and rescue operations (ability to identify fire risks and prevention measures).
• Knowledge of special operations (Hazmat, urban search and rescue) and ability to manage operations in a multi-agency incident.
• Safety, welfare, emergency medical care.
• Community and customer focus.
• Team orientated, coaching and mentoring.
• The incumbent must possess problem-solving skills to deal with high levels of complexity and clarity issues in order to identify, solve and monitor unique issues or problems that have total organisational impact in consultation with the stakeholders.
• The incumbent will be required to perform supervisory/managerial functions for a specific station/section.
