The Free State lies in the heart of South Africa, the kingdom of Lesotho nestling in its hollow, Lying between the Vaal River in the north and the Orange River in the south, this region is one of flat, rolling grassland, crop fields, and sandstones mountains in the northeast.

This province is parked with breathtaking side attractions like Golden Gates Highland National Park, Basotho Cultural Village, Bloemfontein Botanical Gardens, and Oliewenhuis Art Museum.

To back it up it has a highly rich and diverse cultural heritage and history.

The third-largest province in South Africa and second-smallest populated with the second-lowest population density. The Free State has some of the larger producing mines in the country, mining for gold, uranium, coal, diamonds, limestone, granite, gypsum, salt. It has quarries as well as producing sand and stone.

Free State still has 16 active mines, produces 10.5 % of the country’s coal, diamond mining is still very important in this province, and salt is being produced in 20 localities.

In the Free State, the manufacturing industry is thriving as well as being the second largest sector in the regional economy. It was known in the last decade for maize production, but now it has become a manufacturing economy. 14% of the province’s manufacturing is classified as high technological industries, and it has the highest percentage of all the other provincial economy. The growth in high technology industries also contributed significantly to changing the contribution of the gold mine industry to the GGP.

Another important activity being carried out in the Free State is chemical production and beneficiation of Agricultural product. Due to this a large number of industries have developed along with the production of basic chemical from coal.
