    Registered Nurse - Theatre Qualified

    Introduction

    A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse - Theatre Qualified, based at Life Entabeni Hospital, reporting to the Theatre Manager.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the surgical team to perform surgical procedures on patients successfully and to ensure that the patient receives optimal care in accordance with company and hospital strategic objectives. Neuro and general surgery is an added advantage.

    This is a night duty position.

    Critical Outputs

    Ensuring effective financial management by: 

    • Ensuring accurate charging by managing theatre clocking time
    • Ensuring consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis is charged according to policy
    • Managing stock by participating in regular stock taking and controlling of the consignment stock in accordance with the hospital (local) policy

    Affecting the functioning of theatre equipment and instrumentation by:

    • Ensuring the correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation by educating and supervising staff on the correct utilization of the equipment

    Providing quality patient care by:

    • Obtaining the correct information pre-operatively and visiting the patient post-operatively
    • Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and assist the doctor during the surgical procedure

    Ensuring effective people management by:

    • Providing theatre-specific training and assessing the competence of staff
    • Assist the Unit Manager to correctly monitor the normal and overtime hours
    • Ensure the theatre team works according to the scope of practice
    • Give feedback to the unit manager in order to assess optimal performance 

    Effective SHEQ management by:

    • Ensuring the use of personal protective clothing and complying with ISO requirements
    • Ensuring the disposal of medical waste in order to effectively control infection 

    Effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders:

    • Attend review and consultative form meetings to maintain healthy relationships with internal stakeholders
    • Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the unit manager

    Requirements

    • Registered at SANC as a Registered Nurse with a post-basic OTNS qualification 
    • Theatre Experience is compulsory
    • Proven leadership abilities and experience in a senior position is a prerequisite
    • Must have worked in Theatre for at least 2 years

    Case Manager - Specialised Units

    Introduction

    A vacancy exists for a Case Manager Specialised Units, based at Life Bay View Private Hospital, reporting to Susan Visser, Patient Services Manager.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the financial and clinical administrative risks pertaining to patients in specialised units – intensive care units, high care units and neonatal intensive care units.

    Critical Outputs

    Ensuring operational excellence by: 

    • Conducting ward rounds and ensuring the accurate complete collection of clinic data from patient files and liaisons  with nursing staff and attending clinicians
    • Updating accurate clinical information to justify the length of stay and level of care to medical funds of specialised unit cases and where operationally required general ward cases. 
    • Updating and providing the necessary information to funders regarding high-value items, limited benefits and protocols as defined by managed care organizations
    • Communicating funder requirements/responses to attending clinicians and patients where necessary, and ensuring compliance with industry standards 
    • Ensuring effective management of real-time and manual messaging, including requests, responses, rejections and submissions.
    • Ensuring the accurate submission of accounts to funders.
    • Complying with governance and risk management requirements by ensuring adherence to patient service policies and procedures
    • Ensuring compliance to service level agreements with internal and external stakeholders
    • Ensuring governance and risk management by monitoring and adhering to patient service policies and procedures

    Ensuring effective management of revenue by:

    • Ensuring the accurate and complete coding of patient accounts

    Requirements

    • Nursing qualification, Registered Nurse with at least five years’ experience on which at least 2 should be in a specialised unit 
    • Knowledge of hospital patient services and case management processes
    • Knowledge and understanding of CPT & ICD coding
    • Understanding of clinical coding, clinical terminology and anatomy, funder rules, co-payments, exclusions and benefits
    • Understanding of the private hospital industry and practices
    • Experience including proven leadership, change and people management
    • Understanding of business and change management principles
    • Computer proficiency
    • Current registration with the relevant professional/regulatory body

    Pre-Admissions Clinical Assessor (4 Months Sessional)

    A vacancy exists for a Pre-Admissions Clinical Assessor, based at Life Wilgers Hospital, reporting to the Patient Service Manager.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the financial and clinical administrative risks pertaining to future patient admissions.

    Critical Outputs

    Manage pre-admission risk

    • Perform clinical assessments and document clinical history
    • Ensure all pre-admissions are accurately clinically coded in accordance with the coding standards
    • Efficient and proactive pre-admission of all patients in accordance with Group protocol and close liaison with Case Management and National Credit Risk Departments to minimize risk exposure to the Hospital.
    • Ensure high standard of documentation and capture of relevant information for all admissions through hands-on supervision and training.
    • Maintain a high level of customer focus amongst all staff at the Pre-Admission Clinic to the benefit of the Hospital, Public and Doctors.
    • Optimal management of bed and theatre bookings through close liaison with ward and Doctor’s rooms
    • Sound working knowledge and application of Funds relevant rules and limits.
    • Manage authorisations requests and benefit confirmations i.e. prosthesis benefit confirmation  
    • Monitor insurance verification with the funder

    Requirements

    • Needs to be registered as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary with SANC
    • Current registration with the relevant professional/regulatory body
