    • Underwrite and administer a profitable portfolio of Group, Corporate, and multinational Accident, Travel, and Health businesses within AIG’s agreed business plan and underwriting guidelines.
    • Ensure adherence to underwriting authority and portfolio management of the book
    • Work closely with the Head Underwriter in planning, monitoring, and correctively underwriting the book for profitability and in line with underwriting authority changes and any regulations.
    • Manage and service existing renewal book and price for new business with actuarial guidance Develop and grow the channel of distribution assigned to achieve both the top and bottom-line target for New Business and Renewal Business. This involves building relationships with key external stakeholders.
    • Collaborate closely with and build excellent business relationships with internal stakeholders and key business partners and intermediaries through regular visitations and engagement.
    • Involved in projects / regional initiatives including product development
    • Plan and conduct product training for intermediaries to grow and generate sales activities.
    • Be the referral point to the Junior Underwriter and Policy Admin department to ensure the correct processing of accounts and underwriting excellence
    • Any other activities and projects delegated by management

    What we are looking for

    • Degree or Diploma in a related discipline.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in Group Accident & Health sales/business development/underwriting. 
    • Excel knowledge is needed and be comfortable processing data
    • Candidates with Group Accident and Health underwriting and/or product development experience will have an added advantage
    • Sound knowledge of Group Accident & Health products and benefits
    • Proven track record of developing new business and achieving renewal retention targets in Group Accident & Health
    • Good communication, interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, analytical and multitasking skills

    Head of Marine - SSA (Johannesburg)

    The Head of Marine is responsible for:

    Business Management

    • Develops / monitors / manages the Marine Underwriting Strategy for the Sub-Saharan Africa region
    • Assumption of management responsibility for the Marine Underwriting team and resource management in close coordination with the country GMs of the Sub-Saharan Africa region and the global product towers
    • Assumption of budget responsibility for the profit center; Marine Sub-Saharan Africa in coordination with the EMEA Head of Marine
    • Management of the day-to-day business for the profit center
    • Manages the interfaces to sales/customer engagement, claims processing, actuarial, finance and regulatory functions
    • Responsibility for a profitable, growing portfolio, including channel management and go-to-market strategy
    • Takeover of the most important broker and customer relationships in the Sub-Saharan Africa region
    • Escalation and contact person for brokers and customers

    External Relationship Management

    • Representing AIG to major clients and brokers
    • Expand and enhance the AIG South Africa brand
    • Managing regulatory and external director stakeholder relationships

    People Management

    • Making hiring and resource allocation decisions for resources in the country, in alignment with the regional and global governance structure and ensuring and fostering a diverse work environment
    • Communicating the AIG Sub-Saharan Africa vision, mission, and overall GI direction
    • Serve as a member of the AIG Sub-Saharan Africa Senior Leadership Team

    What we’re looking for:

    • Successfully completed legal or economics studies
    • Experience in the insurance market and the transport industry and its development opportunities
    • Extensive work experience in the insurance industry
    • In-depth knowledge of legal regulations in the marine and transport sector
    • Strong business thinking, sound judgement and analytical skills to lead strategically and results-oriented
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with different business units and industries, especially with regard to stakeholder management at different hierarchical levels
    • Strong experience in change management and team leadership as well as the ability to manage and implement change

    Marine Claims Adjuster (Johannesburg)

    About the role

    What you need to know:

    This is a highly specialised position requiring strong administration, technical and customer service skills to resolve Marine claims.  The role entails resolving claims; coverage determinations, investigation, verification and analysing data to determine entitlement of claims; ensuring claims validity; accurate payments and reserves set up; maintenance of claims files and records;  communications with and reporting to brokers as required; and settlement of claims fairly and promptly.

    Responsibilities: -

    • Managing key claims handling; coverage determination, quantum analysis and legal liability assessment, where appropriate and within authority limits.
    • Demonstrate a proficient technical claims competence and support the team by providing coaching and support to other members in the team.
    • Compliance with the Global Marine Claims Handling best practice guidelines on coverage analysis, reserves, file maintenance, claims data and correspondence.
    • Strive for continuous improvement on claim file handling with feedback and support through the Quality Assurance Review processes.
    • Deliver market leading client service by communicating the claims value proposition and representing the claims team at both internal and external meetings and client functions.
    • Identifying and driving operational effectiveness and efficiencies and supporting overseas functions.
    • Work with Team Leader to ensure effective vendor and litigation management.
    • Close relationship with Underwriting and Client Relationship Management.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Graduate – BCom or LLB Degree.
    • Marine claims experience preferred.
    • Good communication skills, both written & verbal.
    • Time management – ability to manage & prioritise workload and diary management.
    • Ability to contribute effectively within a team environment.
    • Ability to work with claims stakeholders to support claims strategy.
    • Knowledge of legal / regulatory and litigation / procedural requirements.
    • Knowledge of reinsurance and different structures. 
    • Experience in assisting Team Management as required.
    • Proven track record on assessment and defence of Insured's liability.
    • Knowledge of Marine case law.
