    Overview

    Magazine Master (Mogalakwena)

    Overview    

    • Delivery of explosives to the blasting face and the checks of all old explosive’s boxes on a daily basis and to assist the blaster with the preparation of blast blocks.

    Duties    

    • Receives finished blasting accessories / explosives from the plant as well as other orders placed by the Explosives Coordinator

    • Books the newly arrived load into the Register Book

    Operator Truck: RoG - Mogalakwena

    Overview    

    • To load holes with explosive products utilising a mixer-placer truck, according to BME standards. Responsible for truck inspection and maintenance.

    Qualifications    

    •  Grade 12

    • Dangerous Goods and Passengers permit (DGP)

    Advantageous Requirements

    Experience    

    • 3 years Truck Driving experience (preferably in mining environment)
    • 5 years’ experience in driving heavy duty vehicles (EC1)

    Duties    

    • Conducts the prescribed pre-use inspections and completion of the checklist prior to use of the truck
    • Ensures that immediate corrections or repairs must be brought about before driving off when any problems in the red category are detected
    • Makes the necessary corrections or repairs in the event of detecting any problems in the blue category, on site if possible, otherwise to report this for correction within 24 hours
    • Signs the checklist and ensures that it is also signed by the Foreman and the mechanic
    • Calibrates the instrumentation on the truck plant to ensure that all metrics remain correct or after major repairs were done on the vehicle, on a monthly basis
    • Cleans the vehicle on an ongoing basis so that it is presentable in the eye of the public and takes personal pride in it

    • Greases, captures and signs off the truck on a weekly basis

    Duties    

    • Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with customers with the view of maximising BME’s position in the market
    • Actively market the AXXIS system
    • As part of the service provision to customers, required to act as technical specialist by providing product and service information as well as providing training in the AXXIS system
    • On an ongoing basis, required to make contact with customers so as to remain aware of their products needs
    • Upon the placement of an order by a customer, required to evaluate the order and the customer’s needs, and then to provide technical product advice to ensure that the appropriate products can be provided

    • Prior to the blast taking place, required to take photographs of the bench area that will be blasted which will be used to make pre and post blast comparisons
    • On the day before the blast, responsible for checking and ensuring that all blasting equipment is clean and in proper working order

    Duties    

    • Risk assessment and Safe work declarations to be done with the blaster at the place of work before entering workplace as per client requirements
    • Assisting the blaster for preparing the blast / charge-up area by meeting all the statutory, legal, client and BME requirements/standards/prescriptions
    • Together with the Blaster, inspects the site to determine the target block and to plan the blasting process
    • Marks off the working area by erecting the prescribed barricading material as prescribed by the client
    • Required to map the holes to ensure that all the required holes correctly placed
    • Required to measure and check the depth of the holes, and to ensure that they are all correctly drilled within the prescribed parameters
    • In the event of detecting any deviations from prescriptions, responsible for behaving assertively and taking the necessary steps to rectify matters, e.g., by interacting and communicating to mine staff, drill contractor or the Foreman
    • On instruction from the Blaster, required to collect the correct accessories to carry out the blasting assignment successfully
    • Responsible to place all detonators and boosters at the collar of the hole to prepare for priming of the blast holes as per the blast plan issued by the mine
    • Responsible for priming the holes by carefully inserting detonators into boosters, attaching weigh-down material to the primer, and lower this primer in the hole under the supervision of the blaster

    Blasting Assistant - Mogalakwena

    Overview

    Duties    

    • Re-fill the truck at the loading points with the prescribed raw materials / products
    • Assist the Truck Operator in conducting the prescribed pre-use inspections 
    • Perform cleanliness duties of the vehicle on an on-going basis so that it is presentable in the eye of the public
    • Perform housekeeping duties as instructed by the Foreman or other authority figure, this may include cleaning, sweeping of the site, silo areas and cleaning ablution facilities
    • Ensure Personal cleanliness at all times as per SHERQ requirement
    • Carry out an inspection of all the holes and measure them to ensure that they are drilled to the correct depth In cooperation with the Truck Operator
    • In the event of picking up any out of spec holes, report this so that the truck operator
    • While adhering to all the SHEQ standards and prescriptions, responsible for engaging the pumping process and loading the holes according to the design specs
    • Place the charging hose from into the correct holes as per procedures
    • Ensure the detonator is not stuck at the bottom of the hole before charging commence
    • Ensure the detonator line is secured at the collar of the hole to eliminate the possibility of the detonator line falling into the hole
    • Act as a Spotter to guide and direct the Truck Operator on the blasting area as per procedures
    • Taking samples as per procedures
    • Assist operator to check final densities
