    Senior Engineer

    Job Description Summary

    This position is for a Senior Engineer – specialized in Power System Analysis and Planning with emphasis on Renewables.

    Job Description

    The Power Systems Operations & Planning team focuses on planning, design, and operation of interconnected power systems.  We understand the physical characteristics of generation, transmission and distribution equipment and the complex interaction characteristics of their operation as part of a large integrated power grid, an industrial plant, or commercial facility. With new power and renewable technologies on the rise, our team of experts are working with customers and partners across the globe to put vision into reality.

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities

    • This position is for a Senior Engineer – specialized in Power System Analysis and Planning with emphasis on Renewables.

    The desired Consultant will be involved in

    • Technical advisory services for projects under development, construction and operation which may include but not limited to technical due diligences, electrical network modelling and study, assessment of electrical system operation performances and project management.
    • Technical analysis and performance assessment of Renewable Energies
    • Identify and execute high quality power energy solutions
    • Review customer specifications and support customers in selection of grid connections and storage solution for the application.
    • Support GE business initiatives related to the systems equipment and services of the business, and provide advisory services to our industry
    • Perform power system analysis including modeling, simulation, and evaluation of design alternatives
    • Lead the development/refinement of tools and techniques for power system simulation.
    • Actively participate in strategic planning and development of GE product/service offerings and support New Product/Technology Introductions concurrent with GE business needs.
    • Prepare and deliver technical reports, effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing written detailed and summary reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
    • Actively participate in Industry forums to promote GE solutions and technology

    Qualifications/Requirement

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in electrical, mechanical, or electric power engineering.
    • At least 5 years of professional experience in engineering, power systems simulation and analysis
    • Proficiency in key software analytical tools, e.g. PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP, PVSYS, EMTP/ATP.
    • Must be able to run these tools focused on interconnecting invertor-based technology to the grid.
    • Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 20% of the time, as required.
    • Languages: must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations, and emails in English. Knowledge of other languages is preferred.

           Desired

    • MS or PhD in electrical, mechanical, or electric power engineering
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Solid understanding of conventional power systems and equipment operation: generation, transmission, distribution and industrial
    • Solid knowledge of Wind or Solar PV projects, equipment and sensors including modules, inverters, trackers, BoP, solar stations, and other components of the plant.
    • Experience may also include a working knowledge of Renewables related regulations, codes, and standards (IEC and other relevant certifications in the Renewables industry)
    • Experience in power system operation and analysis: steady state load flow studies, short circuit analysis, transient & dynamic stability analysis, protection coordination and relay settings studies, power quality studies, earthing design and electromagnetic transient analysis.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Demonstrated capability to complete projects on-time and on-budget as either individual contributor or project manager
    • Proficiency with office productivity software e.g. MS Office, Visio, MS Project.
    • Ability to motivate and influence individuals and teams
    • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for making presentations to internal and external business customers, and for supporting GE external communications, an additional Language is preferred.
    • Industry involvement such as IEEE / CIGRE, ASME, AWEA, PE with published papers in one or more technical societies

    Machinists

    Job Description Summary

    The Machinist will have technical knowledge and experience working with GE/Alstom and oOEM turbines. He/she is responsible for the on-site machining of major rotating equipment components. In addition, you will set up and operate a variety of manual and numerically controlled machine tools.

    Essential functions and responsibilities

    • Operate a Boring Bar, CNC, Lathe and Milling Machine
    • Perform maintenance of clean work areas, tooling and equipment.
    • Respond to requests for emergency repairs and services to troublesome equipment.
    • Drive customer satisfaction through commitment to quality.
    • Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards.
    • Deliver expectations on EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety), Quality, On-Time Delivery, Productivity and Cost Reduction.
    • Completes mandatory trainings.
    • Ensures proper documentation as specified on Test & Inspection Plans and Work instructions.
    • Notifies non-conformances and tags/segregates non-conforming items.
    • Ensures equipment calibration, proper usage of equipment and right material incorporated.
    • Plan and prepare erection work including necessary tools and consumables.
    • System walk downs, inspection of carried out work and handover within requirements.
    • Coordinates with the Supervisor, Lead FE or customer on status of work.
    • Plans, prepares and records additional work as requested.
    • Attends meeting as required.
    • Maintains daily turnover report with all relevant information regarding non-compliances, work tasks, improvements, contractual issues, delays, working time, etc.
    • Must be willing to travel globally on short notice, and for extended periods of time during outage seasons; and the willingness to work weekly schedules that are not uniform on a day-to-day basis.
    • Can demonstrate the ability to evaluate and mitigate safety risks before beginning task/work.
    • To understand the importance of quality and error prevention when planning and executing work tasks
    • Stay abreast of new technologies and test procedures within the organization and continually expand certifications and competencies.
    • Knows how to properly fill out required inspection and repair documentation.
    • Create and maintain a personal commitment to EHS (safety) compliance, quality, and outage schedule.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • 7 years experience as a machinist on power generation equipment.
    • Strong knowledge of GE/Alstom and oOEM Turbines.
    • Ability to work according to a time schedule and meet deadlines accordingly.
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to handle complex work-packages.
    • Ability to work in different countries and cultures.
    • Able to understand/read technical work instructions in English.
    • Able to communicate in English.
    • Good negotiation and communications skills.
    • Willing to train other persons according to the requirements (OJT).
    • Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, and work in a team of Onsite Service Crew.
    • Work effectively with minimal direction and supervision.
    • Willingness and ability to travel for work globally on short notice and for extended periods of time, including weekends and holidays.  This position requires 70 – 80% travel.

    Aero Product Service Engineer - Sub Saharan Africa

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Support of installed Aeroderivative base including activities such as customer issue resolution, fleet issues, service bulletin implementation, Monitoring & Diagnostics, fleet configuration. Maintenance of fleet data, outage management.
    • Capability to oversee Installation & Commissioning activities
    • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
    • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

     Required Qualifications

    • This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology & Fleet Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).

    Desired Characteristics

    • Knowledge of GE LM technology (LM2500, LM6000 & LMS100)
    • Prior experience with GE or other packager packaged LM's
    • It is desirable to have knowledge of control systems such as Woodward, GE MKVie and others used in Aeroderivative technology
    • Generator and its protection and control systems knowledge would be a plus
    • Knowledge of DLE system will be considered an advantage
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.

    Product Commercial Leader ULS, NEA/SSA

    Job Description Summary

    You will be responsible for Service Commercial activities for the Ultrasound Service Sales (ULS) business in North East Africa (NEA) and Sub Sahara Africa (SSA). You will be customer facing and will be responsible for winning Ultrasound Service Sales business in South Africa, NEA and SSA as a whole and will work with related product teams and account leaders to come up with growth plans to achieve or exceed operational plans for services in the ULS product line for both South Africa Direct and other SSA/NEA Direct and indirect market in your region.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement sales strategies to drive organic growth in Product Services Sales both at Point of Sales and after the end of the warranty period (revenue, capture rate and business retention) and all Bowler related metrics.
    • Work closely with the product and marketing team to identify new growth opportunities or create campaigns for their product line, define the go to market approach, and define the structure needed to support them.
    • Work with Channel Partners in NEA and SSA to drive growth in their countries and increase (revenue, capture rate and business retention).
    • Work closely with Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) team to deploy campaigns, Add on Probes, digital solutions and new offering into the direct and indirect markets.
    • Cultivate and leverage customer relationships at executive level, develop long-term customer relationships through the ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities that immediately satisfy customer needs
    • Ensure seamless teamwork and develop close partnerships with the other product leaders, Segment managers, Equipment Sales, Services and Marketing teams to provide customer satisfaction.
    • Performing reporting and forecasting of the sales activity.
    • Work closely with All NEA Regional Service Sales Manager, SSA Regional Service Sales Manager, Zone Service Account Leaders and Service Account Leaders to align on their strategy and to drive growth in their regions.
    • Lead and drive South Africa direct Ultrasound market and align with the regions commercial team and his/her strategy to grow the business in South Africa
