    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer

    Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science 
    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer
    (Ref. EBW08/115/0520)

    • The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science offers both under- and postgraduate training in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics and Data Science, Actuarial Science and Financial Risk Management.  Members of the Department are also actively engaged in research and consulting in these fields. There are currently vacant positions in the Department at either lecturer and/or senior lecturer level.

    Duties
    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer

    • Teaching and developing undergraduate and postgraduate module content in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics and Data Science;
    • Participating in the Department's research activities;
    • Supervision to Honours students.    

    Job Requirements
    Lecturer

    • A Master's degree in fundamental Statistics/Mathematical Statistics, and currently registered for a PhD in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Proven experience in teaching Statistics/Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate level, especially to large groups;
    • Ability to develop undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Ability to supervise Honours students in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Experience in recognised modern statistical programming languages.

     
    Senior Lecturer

    • A PhD in fundamental Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Proven experience in teaching Statistics/Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, especially to large groups;
    • Proven experience in developing undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Proven experience in supervision of Honours and Master's students;
    • Documented research output with respect to Statistics/Mathematical Statistics in accredited scientific journals and the ability to independently build a significant research profile;
    • Experience in recognised modern statistical programming languages.

    Recommendation    

    Lecturer

    • A PhD in fundamental Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • A course work Master's degree (at least 50% of the course work completed as part of the Master’s degree) in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics;
    • Supervision of Master's students;
    • Research output with respect to Statistics/Mathematical Statistics in accredited scientific journals.

    Senior Lecturer

    • A course-work Master's degree (at least 50% of the course work completed as part of the Master’s degree) in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics, or experience in the teaching of such a programme;
    • Supervision of PhD students.

    • The primary goals of the Division of Student Affairs (DSAf), which reports to the Vice-Rector (Learning and Teaching), is to provide systemic-holistic support and development to students and to promote coherent cooperation among all the University’s role players (especially students and faculties) to advance the goals of SU and students.The Centre for Student Leadership and Structures (CSLS) operates in conjunction with the Centre for Student Communities (CSC) and the Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD). All three of these Centres form part of the Division of Student Affairs, which is primarily aimed at student development by means of a broad spectrum of co-curricular activities. The mission of CSLS entails the integration and offering of transformative student experiences, with a focus on providing engaged leadership development and support.

            
    Duties    

    • Providing administrative support to the Director of the Centre of Student Leadership and Structures;
    • Office administration and logistics;
    • Finance;
    • Supporting special projects;
    • Coordinating special events.

    Job Requirements        

    • A National Diploma or B-degree in a related field such as secretarial or administration;
    • At least five years' proven administrative experience, preferably in a university environment;
    • An excellent verbal and written command of English and Afrikaans;
    • The ability to liaise appropriately with stakeholders, both within and outside the University;
    • Proven knowledge and extended experience in the organisation and support of financial processes;
    • High-level computer proficiency with regard to the Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
    • Independence and accuracy in performing tasks in a highly demanding environment;
    • Client service orientated;
    • Ability to function effectively within a team;
    • Accuracy and sense of responsibility;
    • High-level organisational ability with proven ability to prioritise;
    • Ability to function under pressure without compromising accuracy;
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
