    Non-Motor Assessor II

    What will you do?
    The successful candidate will determine the quantum and merit of segmented non-motor claims by performing investigations, verifying the description of the event with the loss, negotiating with (client, intermediary and service providers) and settlement of claims within a delegated threshold and according to contract conditions

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Receiving instruction from Claims Service Consultant (appraisal notes & docs).
    • Checking completion and correctness of document and policy conditions.
    • Planning routes for claims, make arrangements and contact client.
    • Identifying what is required and outstanding from client.
    • Deciding on what must be investigated and whether specialist expertise is required e.g. builder, engineer.
    • Assessing risk to provide recommendations to underwriting.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics
    • Short-term insurance qualification (NQF4) plus completed Digital Non-motor Assessors Skills Programme
    • Certified Fraud Examiner qualification advantageous
    • Five (5) years' or more relevant experience at digital non-motor level (full spectrum), field assessing experience advantageous
    • OR Seven (7) or more years' relevant claims assessment experience (non-motor) (full spectrum)

    Knowledge and Skills

    • All relevant product training completed
    • Familiar with IM external systems
    • Must have experience in adjusting process, assessor reporting tools, building terminology, repair estimation on building damage, indemnity issues, non-standard roofing e.g. thatching, floor coverings, gyproc, building repair calculator and advanced electronic equipment

    Commercial Underwriter

    What will you do?

    Underwriting and Reinsurance Services – Commercial Portfolio Management, CoE is looking for an individual with strong analytical skills and an ability to build good relationships. The successful candidate will have good communication and negotiation skills, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and will be based in Auckland Park.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    This job family stream is concerned with managing risk by providing specialist technical underwriting advice. The CoE is a highly technical role with strong client focus. The primary focus is on renewal underwriting to maintain profitability. The incumbent will be responsible for managing risk administered on external systems, to achieve, maintain and grow profitability of the Commercial Portfolio Management channel.

    • The handling of escalations outside of binding authority, including technical and complex queries. 
    • Managing profitability through the application of effective policy screening actions on policy and portfolio levels
    • The initiation, provision and implementation of renewal terms and conditions on identified high risk and high exposure policies.

    Senior Business (Data) Analyst

    What will you do?

    Santam BITS has a career opportunity for a Lead Business Analyst in the Digital environment with a key focus on Data analysis, calculating Digital value generation and Reporting. The digital assets include various portals and mobile apps. The person should preferably be based in Cape Town, but candidates from Gauteng will also be considered.

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Business Analyst with relevant experience in Data analysis, defining data and analytics requirements and report writing

    Reinsurance Analyst

    What will you do?

    • Santam Reinsurance has two Reinsurance Underwriting Analyst vacancies available. The role reports to one of the Territorial Heads and will be based at the Santam Head Office in Bellville.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    The Reinsurance Underwriting Analyst will be responsible for assisting the Reinsurance Underwriter in underwriting and managing a reinsurance treaty book within one of Santam Reinsurance’s existing geographical regions. This job will appeal to anyone who wants to learn how to build and manage a portfolio of reinsurance risks. While previous experience is nice to have, anyone with a numerate university degree, 0-2 years of post-university work and a desire to work hard and learn should apply.

    • Assist the Underwriter in developing, managing and maintaining a reinsurance treaty book in the chosen territory. This is both, a client facing role and an analytics and accounting role.
    • Building and maintaining reinsurance broker and client relationships for both existing business and potential business.
    • Pricing and underwriting the reinsurance treaties using a range of actuarial and softer methods as well as checking reinsurance contracts
    • Support the drive of profitability and growth in the chosen territory according to annual premium volume, profitability and volatility benchmarks. 
    • Research different region’s (Re)insurance sectors to determine the best strategy to employ on the portfolio.
    • Improving processes by actively engaging stakeholders on the processes involved in the underwriting process.
    • Analyzing contract wordings. Checking and monitoring accounts, payments and profitability of the book. 
    • Actively involved in projects determined by the Territorial Head and/or Chief Underwriter.

    Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

    • Undergraduate degree with a significant numerate component such as Math, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Engineering & Actuarial Science.
    • 0-2 years’ of work experience preferably in the insurance/ reinsurance, finance and/ or risk management sectors.
    • Proficient in MS Office with a strong focus on MS Excel at an Intermediate to Advanced level.
    • Willingness to work over the Christmas and Easter Holiday period
    • Willingness to travel internationally 

    Advantageous Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

    Senior Commercial Underwriter: Namibia

    What will you do?

    Commercial Underwriting within the Underwriting Services team has a permanent position available for a Senior Commercial Underwriter:  Namibia based in Gauteng, reporting to the Underwriting Manager: Segment Solutions and Bespoke wordings. 

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • To manage Santam’s Namibia’s Commercial portfolio with regards to risk appetite and underwriting mandate adherence to support and ensure achievement of C&P’s profitable growth targets.
    • Ensure all commercial risks on this portfolio adhere to Santam’s risk appetite and are written in accordance with our underwriting rules. This specifically includes all reinsurance and fronting arrangement entered into by the Namibian business unit, with regards to Commercial insurance
    • Ensure that all Underwriting governance required for these portfolios is in place with appropriate reporting and resultant action steps
    • Assist in maintaining and creating policy wordings for this portfolio, as needed.
    • Assist in determining business specifications for the design and development of this portfolio’s offerings in Policy Centre, as needed
    • Maintain and provide input and guidance on these portfolios to ensure market competitiveness & retain relevance
    • Support underwriting managers in coming up with new solutions and innovations (including the use of Artificial Intelligence to automate underwriting decisions) that allow Santam to remain the market leader in Commercial insurance
    • Work with Actuaries to determine appropriate rating structures for these portfolios 
    • Develop rating tools/solutions for these portfolios for use by external business partners as needed
    • Meet with brokers to discuss reasons for decisions taken and negotiate differentiated terms
    • Handle all Namibian referrals of a complex nature and make underwriting decisions which requires logical balancing of profit and growth considerations within your mandate and in accordance with the underwriting rules determined by the underwriting managers for Property, Motor and Liability
    • Assist in mandate setting, including associated curriculum for Namibian Commercial Underwriting.
    • Responsible for policy wordings, policy guidelines and implementation of any regulatory underwriting requirements, e.g. PPR for this portfolio.
    • Assist Commercial Underwriting in reaching its objectives. This may include getting involved in initiatives not listed here.
    • Develop talent and help grow the new generation of Santam Underwriters.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma: AIISA or FIISA or similar 
    • Recommendation: Management or Leadership qualification 
    • Must qualify for Santam’s Underwriting Level 1 mandate, as per our assessment methodology and criteria (this will form part of the interview process)
    • Proven track record of at least 15 years’ experience within an Underwriting environment, preferably with substantial commercial experience
    • Of which at least 10 years’ management of a Specialist Underwriting team 
    • Advance Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

    Knowledge

    • Specialist Property or Casualty Technical Underwriting expertise
    • Thorough knowledge of Santam’s Commercial products is peferable
