    Key Accountabilities:

    • Income growth and customer acquisition
    • Identify, research and create a target list for potential new clients for sourcing and engagement
    • Increase and grow (income) in line with agreed targets by generating ongoing referral business (high value switches) primarily from new clients that are banked outside of Absa.
    • Focus on switching primary client relationships from competitor banks to Absa by obtaining leads from current clients and other business units within the bank
    • The identified potential clients are to be called and appointments scheduled to engage and convert these clients to Absa clients
    • Align closely with the Customer Experience and Analytics team in Business Banking to focus acquisition efforts on targeted sectors and segments
    • Remaining current with economic and investment trends to facilitate effective switching strategies for specific clients
    • Ensure the creation and maintenance of an effective network iro competitors and Business forums.  
    • Focus on cross sell ratio improvement, minimum 5 products per new take-on through identifying client requirements and introducing other specialists into the relationship including financial planning, fiduciary and off-shore banking
    • Identify sales and service opportunities and offer solutions appropriate for the client's needs, goal and objectives by using the tools which outlines the products clients currently have and the propensity for new product take-up
    • Adopt a commercial approach to appropriate cost to serve versus value generation, e.g. encourage clients to use electronic banking as opposed to transacting over the counter to better serve and benefit the needs of clients.
    • Maximise sustainable risk by adjusted portfolio contribution.

    Market Intelligence

    • Develop and maintain an understanding of market trends and individual lifecycle challenges and opportunities facing clients to offer solutions that meet clients’ needs
    • Develop and maintain an understanding of competitor bank offerings including products, pricing, services etc and be able to position differentiating benefits and features of Absa products
    • Ensure that you create and maintain a clear understanding of the clients future needs so as to proactively solution them from a lifecycle perspective
    • Participate in seminars for clients and provide information on new products to meet future client requirements.
    • Migrate client relationships to established portfolios once client on-boarding has been bedded down

    Risk & Compliance

    • Understand and apply the relevant governance and compliance procedures to activities undertaken and maintain ongoing completion of relevant governance and compliance training e.g. NCA, FAIS, FICA, CPA, etc.
    • Understand underlying risk profile of clients and ensure that it is acceptable and within appetite before acquisition efforts are embarked upon
    • Develop credit mitigation solutions which are both practical and appropriate for clients whilst simultaneously driving a risk based pricing approach

    Relationship Management

    • Identify the clients’ requirements prior to call, undertake pre-call planning involving necessary product partners to prepare effective pitch and communication of the Business Banking CVP
    • Identify potential standalone clients that can be targeted e.g., Home Loans, AVAF as well as clients of AIFA
    • Work closely with the broader Coverage team to drive lead generation through coverage strategies
    • Meet individual and team value targets.
    • Proactively raise the profile and reputation of Business Banking in the local community by supporting team activities such as CSI projects to contribute to the welfare of local community.
    • Facilitate the resolution of client complaints and communicate opportunities to improve client experience

    Specialist Data Engineer

    Job Description

    • This role provides an exciting opportunity within the Chief Technology Office – Data Solutions team. Working closely with business stakeholders and technology leaders, you will play a key role in the creation and implementation of Big Data applications and products across Absa. Support innovation, design, build and test applications that deliver analytical and predictive content direct to users, combining commercial, analytical and technological expertise. Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa Operational Risk Framework and internal Absa Policies and Standards.

    Key Accountabilities
    Project Work:

    • Work with domain experts to identify and formalize approaches for solving business problems using machine learning and data science.
    • Design, validate, implement, deploy and monitor machine learning models/algorithms on large datasets
    • Work with large datasets using big tools (such as Spark, Hadoop) and/or data science tools (i.e. sk-learn, pandas, numpy, etc.)
    • Comfortable engaging with business area subject matter experts, data analysts and system administrators to find data required for projects.
    • Collaborating with the engineering team in the establishment of data pipelines from source systems to Hadoop.
    • Working with lead data scientists to assist in the refinement of business requirements into measureable and actionable deliverables.
    • Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional business partners (business-unit technology teams) to assist and oversee the deployment of the outputs of your work.

    Infrastructure:

    • Proactively partner with the data architecture and data science teams in applying relevant best practice to actively shape the data landscape in the business, with the aim of improving upstream and downstream data processes to support the business.
    • Promote data literacy within the business stakeholder community by effectively communicating the business value of making data-led decisions, embedding technologies that enable the business stakeholder community to navigate the data landscape and refining team working routines that promote improving turnaround times on data-enabled business processes.
    • Stay ahead of the curve on data science trends, tools and techniques to transition the team and the organization as required.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor (Honors) degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification 
    • At least 8 years’ postgraduate work experience in a technology / digital / analytics role
    • At least 3 years’ work experience in a similar role at management level
    • Expert knowledge of data query tools: SAS, SQL, Spark
    • Expert knowledge of data services, data discovery and visualization tools: DaaS, PowerBI
    • Expert knowledge of data warehousing solutions and processes

    Senior Legal Counsel -Debt Capital Market

    Job Description

    Your key accountabilities will include;

    • Effective management of legal risk and continuously improve controls and efficiency of processes (consistent and proactive approach)
    • Identify opportunities to develop new processes to strengthen the legal risk control framework. 
    • Manage, evaluate and prioritise tasks in accordance with business needs
    • Communicate and distil legal concepts to the business function, ensuring that lessons learned are shared within the bank and rehabilitative steps are identified.
    • Ensure effective and appropriate verbal and written communication of the legal policies to internal clients.
    • Proactive monitoring of compliance to the principal legal risk control framework.
    • Immediately report/escalate any breach of the principal legal risk control framework as per reporting/escalation line.
    • Identification of risk events and accurate and clear reporting as per reporting/escalation line.
    • Display knowledge of regulatory requirements including updates and changes.
    • Ensure technical correctness of documents drafted by ensuring that the latest legal precedents have been included in the documents which would be primarily achieved by conducting regular research with respect to legal developments and attendance at applicable training courses.
    • To provide concise, accurate, timely legal advice to internal stakeholders.
    • To provide legally sound solutions to business problems.
    • Assist in structuring, negotiating, drafting and vetting of legal agreements and documentation relating to standard agreements, transactions and new products.
    • Help to develop working structures and best practice guides for use within business
    • Address all probable risks by seeing to it that they are sufficiently addressed in legal agreements drafted.
    • To build relationships with key senior stakeholders within the legal and business functions across the Bank and become a trusted advisor.
    • To be the preferred partner for business stakeholders on all legal matters.

    A Law degree

    • Admitted attorney or advocate in RSA or other similar jurisdiction
    •  The relevant legal experience, ideally 5-8 years’ PQE.
    • Ability to advise at a senior business level and establish credibility very quickly.
    • An understanding of the banking business and product offerings would be of benefit.
